I honestly believe if we kept Mullen at hooker there, we win the game.

Phythian came on and through no fault of his own, it dramatically changed the team dynamic. Mullen moved to 5/8, Phythian to hooker, Mamo off, Feeney to FB. Too many changes to key positions all at once.

If Brown wanted to put Pythian in there, put him on the wing and move Ross to FB. Brown seems to be dead against playing Ross at fullback or anywhere really but on the wing.

That was bad coaching from Brown there.

Perenara giving that penalty was the equivalent of taking old yeller out the back and pulling the trigger

Yeah a loss off a disgraceful penalty vs a loss in golden point, that's a toughie. I think I'd still prefer to lose it directly through incompetence though. merkins.

I had mixed feelings of Mullen at hooker. His kicking game and defense in the middle was an asset, but his passing game was nowhere near as quick as you want from a hooker. Seemed to be picking it up and passing in slow motion each time.

Speaking of slow motion, he really, REALLY needs to devote some time at training to taking field goals under pressure.

Broken record I know but we don't have the halves to get us home in a tight game against shit teams let alone good ones.

Yeah, the passes were not as snappy as you would like but, we were playing well with him at hooker, we got some of the best downfield kicks at the end of sets that I think I've seen all year.

Plodko is useless on the last so it always goes to Mullen generally anyway. At least if we have him at the play the ball we can get a good kick away. Plus, we can put a 5/8 in there as another option.

Seriously, why did Hodkinson not be available to take that FG attempt? I didn't notice where he was on the field at that time.

Heartbreaking, but I'm relieved that its finally over. It's games like this that give me hope for the future. There is a footy team in there somewhere and I'm confident Browny will get it out of them.

It was nice to see Jake "road runner" Mamo's trademark speed for the first Thompson try.

As an aside, I feel like we generally lack speed in our squad. Aside from Ross.... the others are all slowpokes

Correct. No speed whatsoever.

I can't stand Perenara, horrible referee who always seems to shaft us. But on the first couple of looks that penalty looks legitimate to me. Jezza basically gave him no choice by coming back through the play-the-ball area like that.

We stuffed it up for ourselves with the Gagai drop and the botched FG attempt anyway. Why exactly was Mullen the FG option when he was getting around on one leg?

Surry Mullo starts training at hooker on Monday.

A full off season there and bionically repaired hammys and he could be NSW 9.

Now we just need Hokko to go away and we can start again.

There wouldn't be a team in the world interested in taking Hodko off our hands. We're in for the long haul with him I think. To make matters worse Brown seems to like him, at least publicly.

Hopefully Lamb or Cogger can put him in reserve grade before his contract expires.

The only issue I really see with playing Mullen at hooker is that we now need 2 halves instead of 1 1/2 halves. He can certainly play there, and wouldn't need to run as much. Would need to improve his passing from the ground game a bit, though.

Could this work? Is Midley onto this like he is with the genetically modified breeding program?
