Mateo is definitely better. Sutton can be good, but he's really a lock. Mateo has just a good offload as sutton, but mateo is a better kicker and has a better pass than sutoon.

Yea it is. But seriously, my mate's been bugging since yesterday saying mateo is sh*t house and that sutton chomps him. So i just wanted to see other peoples opinion.

Mateo is a far better player...even when he has an off game he makes 100+ metres and bends and threatens the line. When Sutton has an off game he gives away tries and throws the ball to his opposition/into touch..he certainly has the potential but for some reason can't seem to realise it, he always seems to take five steps back after every step forward. Mateo probably isn't consistently brilliant either but he's consistently solid and contributes for us every game.

Maybe with a change of club, Sutton could get there too...

Mateo is never fit...end of story.

Ah... think before you type.

Since he burst onto the scene in round 1 2007, Mateo has played a total of 56 out of 60 possible games until his injury in round 9 earlier this year. Add to that all of Tonga's world cup games and that's a pretty good strikerate over 2 and a half seasons so anyone saying he is "never fit" must be on drugs.

I went for Mateo, he's just far more consistent and a solid gamebreaker. Best offloader in the game at the moment and the way he can break the line or put players into space is a rarity for a player of his size. He can also be a workhorse forward if needed making 40 tackles a game as he was doing earlier in the season. In saying that I'm a fan of Sutton also, his consistency is lacking sometimes but I put that down to him being switched between 5'8th and lock his entire career.

Mateo doesn't really have any current form as he's been injured for about 2 months and he's a lock forward who bases his game on his hero, Jim Dymock. He has played a bit of 5/8 for us

Sutton is a 5/8, hard to compare them really. Very different players imo.

For the record to whoever says Mateo is the better playmaker- Sutton has played 18 games. Scored 3 tries. 5 linebreaks. 18 Line Break Assists. 46 offloads. 45 tackle breaks and 22 Try Assists. He has pretty much set up or played a major part in most of the tries Souths have scored this year, which is more tries than any other team BTW. ;)

They are some very good stats and personally would not trade Sutton for Mateo. Oh and Bazal try watching Souths before commenting next time.

LOL....the old "Try watching a game" defence, as brought out when someone has no argument. Sutton was laughably bad until the past couple of weeks, and should have been dropped. Mateo has never been as bad as Sutton was until recently.

I really hope Sutton can bring consistency to his game. Ever since he's started taking the line on, he's been on fire.

Really? The same Sutton that was killing it before being injured in the City/Country game? :sarcasm:

You are the one that said he gives away tries--- I can think of one, the one to El Masri the other week.

Well you could say the same thing for Mateo. Despite missing over half the season through injury he's still in the top 10 in the NRL for offloads AND top 20 for line break assists. So while you make a good point in regards to Sutton, that doesn't really prove he's a better playmaker than Mateo unless you want to provide stats of both.

And how many were scored as a direct result of him f**king up this season? How many were scored after he threw the ball into touch in his own end, or threw a hospital pass, or a ball to no one, or just dropped it cold or any other such mistake? He was utterly woeful until recently to the point of losing you games, injury or not, and he should have been dropped. Even the most diehard Souths fan can't deny he was in useless form, surely?
