Matt Dufty

He dropped one ball against Newcastle

He brought the ball back with vigour and speed.

Threw a great pass to put Mika into the corner.

Happy to see the halves chip kicking for Dufty. It will pay off in spades very soon.

His positional play was fine.

When he chimes into the backline he creates doubt in the minds of the opposition.

All in all he had a good game.

Ok, so Dufty dropped some ball last night but .................... he brings much more to the team than catching a ball at fullback.

Our wingers and centres need to be alert to feed the ball to him as he comes running through.
Problem is, our wingers & centres are still in nappies and will take time to gain the nous to know when Dufty is going to make a running break.

One would expect, McGregor being a centre, could assist with some advice.

I'm prepared to accept Dufty dropping a ball and making up with scoring some tries for the Red V.
l'm confident that he'll score more points than cost us.
I think he brings that much to the team.

Dufty is a confidence player and will improve in good time.
McGregor seems to be allowing Rava more grace than offers at present.
He made many mistakes last night and no tackles ( if l'm correct ).
You are probably correct but, does he bring anymore than what Field has in speed & ball playing ability
( I think not ) both equal in poor defence but maybe Field can keep his eyes on the ball with his ELBOWS TOGETHER.
I kid you not, Mary will be secretly convinced he was making the right decision on playing Widdop at FB.

What a brilliant individual try. I know he spilt a few but he really is our go to in attack and when you consider how plodderish we've looked under Mary going back to 2014, tries like that are few and far between so I intend to savour it and watch it back 3 or 4 times.

Dufty has to learn to inject himself into the backline and ball play, like Brett Stewart and Slater used to do. If he can learn to do that, our backline will become a lot more potent and Dufty will create more opportunities for himself too.

Comments in here are to typical of today's media/fans, and what they define as quality.

Look is was a sensational try, absolutely blistering. But he turned it over three times on the zero tackle in our red zone. We need some stability in our back 3 and aren't getting it

We definitely have lacked stability in our back 3 over the past few games.

More intensive training under the high ball is required with the fullback and winger running forwards, sideways and backwards monitoring the same kick.

The Fullback needs to make an early call.

The drop ball at the end was unfortunate and not typical of the way Dufty usually plays.

If the back three don’t improve over the next few weeks Mary will need to make a tough call.

Problem is we don’t have many options.

I'd bite the bullet and throw Sailor or Field into the halves, and push Norman to fullback.

Dufty to the bench as some spark.

Tell me one other player that could have scored that try. Who in our team can actually catch anymore?

You are right they need to practice a strategy for high kicks (no escorts please), and practice all day all week taking high kicks until they either get it or are moved on....we are becoming known as the team you kick high to because we are amateurs at it and unless it's addressed now we will leak tries all year. The JP/Dufty ball bounce is not the way to go.

Norman would be safer and more robust.
Agree mate , but Norman doesn't score that try .... Dufty needs to be in the team , and if not starting as fullback should be injected at the right time in games , not 5 min from the end when the game is over .....

Norman isn't half as dynamic, who is!
I'm just thinking we need to build pressure and territory. Hard to do that when you can't diffuse a kick and get the set rolling

Now can we have some Field?

Shoulda been on the bench instead of Rav FFS
Lol, for sure. What about that Rav/Peirera line break and then eventual butchery of a try. At that stage we had 3 wingers in the team. At any rate I thought it was hilarious it really summed up our coach and those two players. I’m not having a crack at the players, they’re both just raw and not many players in the comp would have created that chance but they just had no idea what to do when they got in the clear. So much natural talent and just perfect rugby league body types both of them. f**king jealous. Just lacking a lot of league nous.

Agree again mate , its been a lottery ticket with the high ball this needs to be fixed really quick or we will be bombed out of games .....

Yeah mate if he can sort it out, we have nothing to worry about. He should never have let that one bounce where Pereira got caught in goal, then he seemed rattled in trying to catch one nobody would have. Such a lonely position fullback
