Matt Keating's not a bad player, not as damaging as Kingston was last year at dummy half, but does make some pretty good tackles and runs on occassions.

What was wrong with Heckenberg anyway, I thought he was alright for the 2 years he was at Parra?

for a frontrower he made lousy hooker....other than that no idea.

Unfortunately went backwards when he went to Manly.

I remember one game I think against Melbourne in 03, he toughed it out against their forwards which was pretty good. That year we were missing Cayless and Hindmarsh for a period and Heckenberg stepped up.

I thought Matt Keating was superb last season.

I really thought we had a guy who could turn out to be more than 'dependable' at the hooker spot.

So far this season he seems to be struggling mightily. Seems to be second guessing himself a lot - confidence is shot for some reason.

I do hope he turns it around, because he has quite a bit of ability

and as soon as he started balding he turned to sh*t too, stay away from players with a receading hair line at a young age - they always well most of the time turn out crap as they become self consicious in front of the cameras.

Hollingsworth, Mead, Heckenberg - my mind is blown with all these blasts from the past.

Craig Stapleton is playing for the CRL Illawarra Rep Team at the moment, off the bench. Anyone remember the day he kicked Hoppa's ass all the way up the tunnel?

Ah, Stapo - loved the biff!

If only we held onto him and at the same time had Glenn Morrison in our side...Imagine Stapo, Morro, Fui AND Tahu all lining up against you...

My two cents:

Matt Keating looks great when he runs from dummy-half. He just doesn't know when to run and when to pass.

His defence is rock-solid.

He has a big boot on him.

His passing game off the ground needs improvement.

But overall, he's a young kid with a good base to work off IMO. If we put the work into improving his game we'll reap what we sow.

I think he actually has a good dummy, when he uses it, the defence often opens up, but he hasn't got the pace to get through the hole.

Matt Keating's biggest downfall is the 'shuffle step, pass' that has seemingly inhabited his game at the moment. As a few have pointed out he is a very solid defender, makes good yards with his kicking game and when he does run can be quite sharp. His passing can put players under pressure though.

I dont think there is much between him and robson......Keating beeing a better defender maybe is ando's reason to bring him on when our defense is a little tiring...

Hooker thou for me is one position that is up for grabs if someone realy wants to take it!!!

I was not knocking Heckenberg, i was giving him a rap. All i meant was that Heckenberg started out at Parra and didn't really develop (start playing well) towards the end of his tenure.

Are we going to persist with Matt Keating untill he finally gets good and then sell him off.

Im just sick of mediocrity, its the reason why we haven't seen a trophy since 86. Some people on this forum are stuck in the early 90s mindset of " They got beaten 40 to 4 but atleast they tried hard".

Get rid of Keating and sign someone who can do the job.

His dummy-to-no-one drives me mental. If any defender ever falls for it, their club should immediately rip up their contract. Hahaha.
