Matt Peterson released, off to Super League

Titans winger Matt Petersen has been granted an immediate release from his contract with the Gold Coast to play overseas.

The release means he will join English Super League club Wakefield for the rest of the season in a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Titans managing director Michael Searle said the Titans did not want to stand in his way after Wakefield made Petersen an offer.

"It was a difficult decision for the club to let him go but given we were uncertain about what would happen next year it would be unfair on him and his family to drag this out," he said in a statement.

Enter Brenton Bowen or Shannon Walker.

That's a big blow, he's been playing really well for you guys. Is his family from the UK or is he after $$$$?

He is the most well travelled player in League.
Comes from Perth - played juniors for Newcastle - joined the Cowboys from Newcastle - joined Parra from the Cowboys - Gold Coast - Wakefield.

In between he has played for USA in USA and in the qualifiers for the WC last year in England.

Playing RL is an interesting way for a Perth boy to see the world.

All about the $$$ and he goes with the club's blessing knowing we have the talent (Brenton Bowen and Shannon Walker to start with) to replace him.

The way some are carrying on, we are losing Eric Grothe Snr.

Peterson was a good first grader, nothing more. Solid winger, the odd mistake though a good finisher.

High calibre winger going forward in an age where theres plenty of crud.

A poor decision.

Its interesting that he really came along under Carty and the Titans crew, its very encouraging.
