Matthew Lodge Arrested in New York

A few weeks stint in rehab session (one court mandated) and working in a soup kitchen.

In 3 years that's nothing.

What's the threshold offence for being able to return to the NRL? Anything below Rape or murder?

A violent home invasion has to be in the life ban category.
I think fighting for ISIS may preclude a player.

Do you agree that we should establish that certain violent crimes should result in life or significant bans?

I'm a big believer in second chances since I was given one and turned my life around. I can't be hypocritical and say others shouldn't.

In saying that there would be a few that are life bans for me. Child molestation, murder etc.

Well he set about fixing his issues and came back to league. The NRL turned him down a few times as well.

I do wonder if he set about fixing his issues to actually fix them or just so he could return to league?

Honestly if that were me and I was truly contrite I would be paying back what I can asap. If that meant stacking shelves and passing on what was left over after the basics then that's what I would be doing.

To me all the press is just lip service and PR from the Broncos, and I am pretty disappointed we have guys like Lodge and Packer allowed to play. Serious violent crime and sexual assaults should be a mandatory ban.

I guess we will find out if he choses to pay out of his league money or not. That would be an indication for me he is sincere.

I understand the argument against Lodge because he hasn't paid the settlement. Packer did his time and should be right to have a go at building the life he wants.

They have to have a set of rules to judge this stuff on and not allowing people into the game because the media can stir up some outrage isn't it. I prefer that the NRL are working with professional psychologist etc. and making sure the player meets certaun criteria and they do all the right things going forward.

One foot out of line and the NRL will crucify him.

Also funny how everyone keeps bringing up the women thing when the poor bloke who actually got attacked gets forgotten.

You'd think a person of high moral character like Wayne would encourage Lodge to pay something to the family, or maybe he only wants a player to bolster his forward strength.

They want what the court decided was sufficient compensation, and have been painted as crooks for some reason.
Lodge said himself he didn’t even bother to go and defend himself.
You can’t not show and then whinge that the people punishment is too harsh.

No he said wasn't aware of it until it was done and he tried to contact their legal people but nothing happened and he found out about it all in the paper.

People are letting their bias slant their how they interpret the facts.

Didn't really follow this signing, but I don't know why the Drongos took on so much heat signing someone who is, at best, a bog standard first grader.

Any number of Queensland Cup players could have done the job without so much backlash.

They seem a very troubled organisation these days.

He's young with potential and would be on minimum wage.

Its always going to be hard to categorise where the bar should sit about being given a second chance to become a multi millionaire sports star.
Smacking the Mrs about? nah we can live with that.
Stomping on someone's head who you've attacked? Yep we can allow redemption here
Assaulting and terrorising a family in their own home - everyone deserves a second chance, just an error

It does seem murder, rape and molestation are probably the only offences that would see a sine die ban in the NRL.

But hey the game doesn't abandon people, what a morally sound game we are.

Slow drivers in the right lane and people that stop at Give Way signs for no reason.

People who go to pay at the checkout and whip out their mobile phone to transfer funds while everyone else is forced to wait

People who indicate they're going to turn but then almost bring their vehicle to a complete halt before turning the wheel
