To the people who think being caught drink driving (once) should be a sackable offence...

Is this as low as you'd go, or can we go further?

Speeding...sackable?
Jaywalking...sackable?
Littering...sackable?
10 minutes late to training...sackable?

C'mon guys...let's bow down to the media cretins and turn the NRL into the next facist state. Everbody chant...ZERO TOLERANCE! ZERO TOLERANCE! ZERO TOLERANCE!

Drink Driving is a life threatening thing....comparing that to any of the above shows how much of an idiot you are.

I didn't make any comparisons, nimrod. I was clearly asking you guys whether you want the other 'offences' to be sackable offences too.

So, instead of missing the point, why don't you give some answers...

Should being caught speeding be a sackable offence? And don't forget, speeding is a 'life threatening thing'.

Driving behind the wheel drunk, you not only endanger your life, but others around you. Speeding is bad too (and if a major breach of the limit action should be taken). But bring up littering and so forth is stupid.

These guys have to learn. We cant have players out there being drunk behind the wheel. And three times over, fair go, sorry doesnt cut it, theres no intention in the first place not to break the law when you have such a high alcohol %.

When at such a limit and driving, it wont take much for an incident to occur. Do we really want our code to be the one where one of our players is involved in an incident which could leave to thh fatility of someone?

No risks. Sorry to have to own you, but I had to.

Who the f**k are you to lecture on morals? You told everyone you "jabbed a 14 year old girl in the face" - and you're attempting to criticise someone who drink-drove and is paying the penalty. You should be charged with assault on a minor, you lowlife Shire scum.

What it boils down to is that, IMO, Costigan at least would have a case for unfair dismissal.

Standards so low? Oh, sorry...I just realised you're a Sharks fan!

"Speeding is bad too (and if a major breach of the limit action should be taken)."

What the hell does that mean? Give me a concrete answer. Should speeding be a sackable offence?

When a player decides to drink and drive, he is knowingly risking...

his life,
other's lives,
his car,
a huge fine,
jail time,
public humiliation, and
letting his club and teammates down.

Pretty serious stuff. Do you really think that facing the sack from your club is going to add that much of a difference?

Costigan (and others) made a stupid, stupid mistake, primarily because he's just a stupid, stupid idiot of a 20-something year old kid. Instead of just cutting a player like this loose - you know, so he'll never learn - clubs should make them pay for their mistake in a reasonable way, and turn them into a respectable member of society. No one should lose their job for being caught drunk driving*.

* I note that I'm talking about first offences here, and incidents which do not harm the player or others. If there are victims involved, then getting sacked from your club is the least of your worries.

If I remember correctly, this isn't the first time Costigan has been in trouble. The main difference in the end is that the Bulldogs would not want to lose Matuia where as the Bronco's would have seen Costigan as expendible.

Speeding IMO is worse. You are usually 100% completely aware of what you are doing, and deliberately flouting the rules. Hence why it's called being CAUGHT speeding.

You couldn't troll over the issue so you troll over someone posting an article?

It's easy to pick an example of speeding that is worse than a particular example of drink driving, and vice versa. Eg. an 18 year old P-plater has a few drinks and waits a couple of hours before driving. Problem is, he didn't wait long enough and his b.a.l. is 0.01-0.02. Compare this to someone doing 130km/h in a 60 zone.

However, I don't think you can say one is worse than the other in general.

So when he drunk and then hopped in the car, he had no idea he may be over the limit? Never mind the limit...but three times over it.

both are wrong, but 3 times over the drink driving limit for an adult (maitua limit is less - now will be was less) is way worse than say 1-5km over the speed limit. you don't even get a speeding ticket for that.

Your dad probably needed his license in order to do his job. There are a lot of people who rely on their licenses for work. There are a lot who don't. There's no way that I would get the sack if I was ever done for DUI. It's unlikely that my employer would ever even find out.

The difference with NRL players is that they have a public profile and everybody does find out. The clubs are forced to react purely for PR reasons.

same thing hey?

do you have problems reading or something...the first few paragraphs of the 1st article is completely different to the 2nd article. It actually makes people think Maitua is an idiot, as one of the members said above.

Then you read the article I posted, and you can see where Reni is coming from. The more you post, the more of a wanker i think you are
