A bit off topic, but would be good to see this annual tour expanded to 2 weeks (3 weekends), with 3 games played during this tour. A few games every year might also ease a little of the pendmonium at the grounds (... wishful thinking perhaps).

This does set back their bid. They said they were planning something like Skilled Park built for the bid.. don't know if that's big enoough, now.. Once they have the fascilities they will have a chance of actually controlling the crowd.

Gee, how little you blokes know about PNG. The issues surrounding crowd control, ticket sales, ground infrastructure and all the rest that goes with hosting a modern sporting event depend on certain basics such as:

effective and transparent management; a basic understanding of "some will miss out" by the general public;

These, amongst a lot of others, are missing in PNG and it has been like that since "law & order" became a mythical beast sometime around the early '80's.

not off topic at all, I think it's a great idea. Take a squad of 25 over, it's a great experience for those who haven't played much rep footy, or for any player for that matter.

If you can spread it across three major regions of the country, then it will definitely reduce the level of pandemonium because you're reducing the number of people travelling from all over. The problems we are seeing now are coming about because we can't cope with the demand, and those who have travelled from across the country aren't too willing to turn around and go home after being told "we're full" once they get to the stadium...

See posts like this are the real problem. How much do you think a huge stadium costs? If we are talking about a stadium of about 30,000 you are probably looking at at least $100 million. That is nothing for a country like Australia. However, GDP per capita is PNG is only $2300. That would be one expensive stadium. While that is being built there are probably people starving on the streets. Just reading wikipedia, I see that a large proportion of the population are illiterate and that there are only five physicians per 100,000 people. Also just over 50% complete primary school.

What these facts tell you is that PNG is a developing country. With these horrible statistics the government cannot afford to build a stadium or to bankroll an NRL team. This does not mean that money should not be put into sport. Investments should be made into the grassroots of the game and to the national team as they are an inspiration to their people.

I don't know if this is true for you but I think that a lot of people who want the game to spread into PNG do not care at all about the people of the country. Most of these people are not humanitarians who truly care about the people of PNG. They just want to see rugby league spread around the world even if it causes great cost to the country.

Fair points there wilson, but at the same time you have to ask yourself, are all the problems of PNG going to be solved (or even dramatically improved) in our lifetime? If the answer is no, does this also mean that the people there should lose all hope of ever having a decent rugby league team to watch?

To me a stadium is no different to a road, a road or highway is not edible (for those that are starving) but they still get built in developing countries. Roads can be used by citizens just as a stadium can be.

And it will be much more no-frills than an aussie stadium too, so costs will be less. If Robina was quoted as an example, that's just capacity-wise. This stadium probably wouldn't even have seats in most parts, just like an outer stand in an aussie venue...
