IF salford are going to make themselves a must have for the ESL,
AND Cardiff and Toulouse are necessary for market/game expansion,
AND The ESL is set on expanding from 12 to 14...

Who would be the weakest side currently in the ESL to go down to make room for these 3 to go up?

(By weakest side, not just on the pitch, but economically... worst financial shape, worst venue, worst market, worst fan support... easiest to drop and NOT take much of a financial hit for the league in the process...)

the 3 current SL clubs in danger would be hull kr, cas and wakey.

Hull KR have Hull FC close by, but KR have over 6000 season ticket holders and the derby games are special.

cas have gotten their new ground approved but there are questions on funding. are playing awful at the moment in SL, losing to huddersfield by a big score. small population

wakey have a poor ground but large population (city). their new ground proposal is well behind cas so that could cost them their spot. crowds have boomed in recent times, circia 10,000 average so far this year playing in a dump. in a new ground and being from a city, offers lots of potential.

dont forget widnes. new owners, good ground. theyll have a strong bid.

id like to see toulose, crusaders and salford in. so if its 14 team SL, a current team has to miss out.

id much prefer 15 teams tbh as all the current SL teams are going well

Can't have them all I guess. Plus I think it will be good to have some strong clubs in NL1 knocking on the door, demanding a franchise.

I think go with the best 12 plus toulouse and maybe crusaders. Toulouse has to be there in my view. France are the closest team to becoming a genuine top international side - we need to promote them above all else.

If the Crusaders are deemed ready - get them in also.

I think Salford should be in. Being in manchester and having grand ambitions with a sparkling new stadium should be enough.

There should be an undertaking from the RFL to expand to 16 sides in 3-5 years.

16 would be easy.

current SL 12, widnes, toulouse, crusaders and salford.

other clubs down the track potentially :

1. leigh - brand new ground holding 12,000 in RL heartland, overshadowed by wigan
2. halifax - proud old club, need to finish off their ground
3. doncaster - fantastic ground, expansion south as are in south yorkshire
4. gateshead - tried before, good performance but failed partly because they didnt get a share of TV money
5. midlands - maybe leicester - long time away but need RL club in the midlands
6. Skolars - 2nd pro RL club in london
7. lyon - more expansion in france, big city
8. marseille - again
9. cumbrian club based on a merger of workington / whitehaven
10. oldham - another club in manchester area, were in SL before but failed, if they sort themselves out can have another go, great junior area.
