Like I have said before Peachey is just an average player now who has the occasional blinder.

Problem is, he's not on average money.

His defence at the back lately has been terrible.

His speed has gone.

Simmons should be our new fullback next year.

He is going to be a real gun player for us.

I hope El Masri will be purchased with some of Peach's money.

and the leftovers used to top up Sullivan's and Bailey's new deals.

Another scorcher of an opinion.
first of all, Peach is our leading try scorer by a mile.
he is also leading Kimmorley in try assists.
He is our leading DH runner.
he has the most metres of all of our backs.
Besides 1 poor game in defense where something was obviously wrong, he is managing at least 18 defensive points per game, in a team with the worst defense in the league.
& you want to put merrit there, who on his performances so far, is lucky to get a spot in PL.
Emilio is a better natural player than merrit with more size & look where he is. Maybe we should have sacked Peach 2 years ago because "emilio is going to be a gun player for us"

Hear hear, I wouldn't take anyone ahead of Peachey. No other fullback sets up as many wins, and no other player in the team has been as loyal a Shark.

Sure he might get a smaller deal this time, but getting rid of him would be crazy. We have only three quality backs, and constantly are wishing for more - why cut it back to two?

I've loved watching Peachey play but I'm afraid his time has come.
Nothing lasts forever.
If we free up his dollars we can spread some around for some new players that will benefit the team OVERALL.

Oh and I expect Emelio to be released this year so don't get too attached.
He is reserve for reserve grade so that doesn't lead me to think he will be retained.

I'm expecting the broom to sweep out the following and be replaced with some fresh faces.

Reefy you have once again forgot to take your medication. Peachey has done his race and Merrit + Simmons are developing into quality fullbacks. Peachey ahead of Noddy in try assits? hmmmm....
You have the nerve to question Drag Slayer about the quality of players when you think Saleh is an origin quality player???
Peachey would have to be the slowest back at the club and his defence at the back is nothing special.

Surely some effort should be made to retain the Peach, i agree that his best days are behind him but i still think he is the best fullback at our club. He still creates tries and has made some good saves in defence from the back so far this year. He might be on the big money now but that doesnt mean his next contract has to invlove big money. I dont think many other clubs will be after someone as old as Peachy but I still think he has 2 good years left in him. So why not offer him a 2 yr contract but much reduced money than what he is on now?
The man has been a loyal shark all his life and i dont think the club should just discard him like that if he is keen to continue playing.

Look I think it's very honourable for any Sharks fan to back the Peach.

But let me point to a club who has the same decisions to make like we do this year......the Roosters.

Brad Fittler has been a great champion for them and could probably play another two seasons.

But during those two seasons he would be an average player with diminishing speed and probably become more injury prone and recovery would take far longer than a bouncing 20 year old player.

Brad can see this and has called it a day. For the better of the TEAM!

It is very much a young person's game these days.

Something that has been emphasised more than ever is SPEED!

Speed in returning the ball, speed at the play the ball area, speed off your defensive line, speed to make covering tackles and speed to finish off line breaks.

Even the great ET was a passanger in the side in his final two years.
He was used as a decoy for alot of backline plays. (What an insult to his once great prowess.) He recovered very slowly from injuries as well.

I hope Peach gets a great testimonial because he deserves it!
I would rate him as one of our top 3 players in the past decade.

But time catches up to even the great players.

Peachey should be kept for another 2 years.. He will recieve a cut in his salary, but im sure thats what he would expect.. His best years are behind him? Pfft Can you see the future?
The guy is a champion, still continues to set up tries and score tries.. I admit his defence wasnt to good, but it has improved heaps since, watch the Raiders, Manly, Roosters and Melbourne games if you dont believe me..
