Waldron can see the writing on the wall for the Storm.
Once the News money is gone so are the Storm!

And how many CEO's in the NRL are running clubs that don't make millions of $'s losses a year? Only difference is Storm's losses are being covered by News ltd (for very good business reasons) as opposed to poor saps losing their dole cheques on the pokies or some sugar daddy that has decided that rather than a new Ferrari they'll spend some of their investment returns on a hobby club.
lol at people who think it is Waldron's fault NRL isn't on FTA outside of NSW and Q'land. Don't have to look very far to see who the real culprit is, uhhhmmmmmmmmmm.....
Thank you Kurt for a very informed and logical post.
What I underlined is also a concern for me. Not only is he going to take that information with him to Union, he could also lure some of Storm's sponsors, staff and players which could be a bit of a worry for the club.
Given that supporters of the two Rugby codes are pretty thin on the ground in Melbourne, I would have thought that keeping them all on side would be in the best interests of a start up Rugby Union side. Potentially pissing half of them off by poaching any high profile personnel carries some big risks in my opinion.
As we've seen with RU purchasing big name league players in the northern states, it may attract attention, but it doesn't attract fans. If anything, it polarises them.
PR wants Cronulla and Penrith to die and their Leagues clubs and infrastructure given to the Reds. Then he wants the NRL and ARL to take the blame from everything from the Great Fire of London to Mahatma Ghandi's lost Y fronts.Ziggy said:Shock horror, some clubs have private ownership, so tell me what the Reds are proposing for their structure.
Yes. It only encourages him! This is what we get for taking home games to Perth.
I doubt the Melbourne Volvos will poach any Storm player. The Raiders and Brumbies never swapped anyone from memory.

Frick, he's done a good job and takes a lot of knowledge of corporate partners etc to a rival. not good whichever way you look at it.
You can bet the next CEO appointee will be a high profile one who knows the Vic market.
What about now? There was no need to. Brumbies had a large pool of players to draw from (those not contracted to the Red or Tahs). Union was just becoming professional and didn't see the need to gain publicity via poaching League players. Times have changed, and their aren't enough quality Union players to go around, not to mention that the private owners need this team to be a success from the get go.
Well, you want the Dogs punted to make way for dubious new teams who may be competitive in 2050.Cronulla like Wentworthville could still play a part, maybe a feeder team for the Saints, or even the Bulldogs considering how many Dogs players live down that way!
I remember Ian Robson Green Machine. I lived in Auckland in the 90's and he did a great job. He has an interesting cv In my opinion he is the man for the job, plus he has a good relationship with News Ltd.

No you didn't. All you said was that now there wasn't a lot of quality Union players to be poached. You daid nothing of the Raiders players or staff that may possibly be poached by the Brumbies. They would love Campese given his family links - and other quality Raider talent. The fact that no cross breeding has existed between the Raiders and Brumbies proves my point that it won't necessarily happen with the Melbourne Volvos and the StormI think I covered that Loudstrat.
Well you keep calling for the death of many Sydney teams, yet are not willing to sacrifice yours. Once could argue that Canterbury is one of a glut of inner city clubs that could make way. The Tigers have good claims to outer suburbia. The Roosters are so strong financially. Saints have already merged. So in theory, after Souths and Cronulla go, your mob could be next.If they were the bottom team in Sydney, spending the least under the salary cap, and the least off the field, with poor support, then yes. But that is not our position.
They are still surviving, are they not? They have only lost one more game than your mob in the last 2 seasons, finished just as high in the finals and won one less spoon! It's called survival of the fittest, and Cronulla is just not up to standard. Won't matter, Cronulla are the masters of their own destiny at this point, and if they go poorly on the field (or off), I can't see them securing that major sponsor they so desperately need, and their is no where else left to cut expenditure. Running on fumes as they say.
It s not a good analogy to compare the Brumbies to the Raiders. I lot of the Brumbies are recruited to play only the Super 14 season. Once that is over, they return to were they come from or what ever club they play from. eg:No you didn't. All you said was that now there wasn't a lot of quality Union players to be poached.
