Here's hoping Vince improves his attitude a heck of a lot.
To the above talking about him getting a start in Premier League, don't bank on it, Vince is not a happy camper when he does not IMMEDIATELY crack first grade. He whines, whinges, grimmaces, then asks for a release, begs some more, gets some grade experience, buggers up completely, gets dropped, whines, whinges, asks for a release. There'll be no McGoldrick/Vagana combo with Mellars clinging on, Mellars has made it clear he expects first grade action pretty much straightaway at the Sharks and to be a Kiwi by year end.
He's a heck of a talent, he's not quick over the first 10-20 metres as you have to be in rugby league, but over 100 he's no slouch and he can hit a hole. He's big, but has extreme problems handling the high ball (A trial v Penrith this year had people in disbelief over his lack of skill under the high pill), and he's woeful on goal line defence when defending out wide. He can't read a play. He CAN tackle, once he's in nice and close to the action his technique is very good, but he just can't read a play well enough out wide. Ruben Wiki toyed with him last year ending his initial first grade run, then Manly gob smacked him a few weeks ago in his last appearance for the Warriors.
Don't get me wrong, these would be my thoughts if he was still with the club, but, he's got a lot of attitude changes to learn. If you could get him to resist the urge to be thinking of Vince playing first grade week in week out and instead having Vince contribute to whats best for the Sharks, be it in Premier League or first grade, and could blood him in Premier League for a few months, you're onto something. There he could sort of his defensive weaknesses out wide, his frailties under the high ball, work on his acceleration. If you can do that, coupled with his natural strength you have a very, very, very fine footballer who will from there hopefully achieve his goals internationally.
Hope he goes well. I really do because I like to see young Kiwis come up and succeed.
