Melo traded to the Knicks, Nuggets to be charged with rape?

True you could look at it like that but the Nets were going hard even when the Knicks interest seemed to cool off, I think it was the other way around but whichever way it went though it worked the Knicks gave up a hell of a lot for Melo and to them I say f**k 'em and hope they fall on their sword.

That starting 5 the Knicks have is alright, certainly not a contender to Boston, Chicago and Miami yet imo, but the bench will be tested more than Miami's will be, who from that list can anyone see coming off the bench holding it together?

Yeah the waters pretty muddy on this.

The bench atm does look very Heat-esque.

Been reading alot of stuff about how Isiah has been very much involved in this deal. Why is Dolan so obsessed with him?

FMD Knicks should of held Mozgov, at the least.

Oh well we have Melo.

Bad news is all the new Knicks "fans" that will wear Melo jumpers at festivals (just like James and Bryant). All these casual bandwagoners that haven't been through the tough times of the record of not making the finals pisses me off.

It's not just that the supporting cast is crap now for the Knicks, it's that if the MLE is scrapped under the next CBA, or it's a hard cap, or the mechanism by which the cap is set is changed (therefore lowering the cap number), then it's going to be very difficult to improve through free agency.

Trading away draft picks plus young players has been fine up to now, when you could easily gut a roster and start again, or use the various cap exceptions to add veterans or useful players, but moving forward it's likely that will change. If this trade didn't put the Knicks immediately into championship contender mode, I'm not sure it's worth it long term. But it's the Knicks so who cares?

It's interesting to see how the Knicks attitude towards this changed, and how that coincided with Dolan and Isiah apparently becoming more involved in the process.

I haven't looked into the details but we didn't trade Curry, we have space (unless his contract will toward Melo).

I was at the Knicks v Lakers game last week and MSG was full of "we want Melo" chants.

Thomas has f**ked us again with the lack of depth now, will be interesting to see the fickle New York fans fire up again if we continue around .500, what will they/we want then?

I'm trying to figure out what the Knicks cap figure will be.

Do they keep Billups, or buy him out? From what I've read he has a team option for next year, where the team can waive him and pay him a fraction of his cap figure. If they pick up his option then their pretty much hamstrung for this upcoming free agency.

Assuming the extension goes through, you'd think Melo's player option would be picked up.

If they do choose to waive Billups, they should still have enough cap space to sign some decent free agents

Should have specified, was more referring to the attitude of the Knicks front office.

For a while, it seemed as though Walsh was intent on lowballing the Nuggets and trying to give up as little as possible.

Wasn't that long ago when it seemed as though Chandler, Curry and a first was going to be the Knicks best offer for Melo

Only recently did things change to the point where the Knicks were basically willing to bend over and give up whatever the Nuggets wanted. It's interesting to note that it's recently that some stuff has come out about how Dolan and Isiah have become more involved in the process.

I doubt the Knicks will have enough cap space to acquire either Cp3 or Deron tbh (at least via free agency). As Tiger's pointed out, Melo's and STAT's cap figures will just be too big an impediment.

I still like the potential of Brewer so he is a nice fit for Randolph who clashed with the knicks. I know Randolph has potential but he wasn't going to see it as a Knick.

They(the knicks) need some serious big man help. I doubt they get any better than a Earl Barron or Sean Williams this year though...

The nuggets have to trade felton or lawson imo.

I like what the T-Wolves are doing.

They needed to get rid of Brewer he wasn't doing anything.

They get another potentially good piece in Randolph.

Once Rubio comes...they can be good...particularly if they keep K-Love.

No point in waiving him next year - it's the summer of 2012 that they're aiming at so they may as well keep Billups around next year.

On the topic of the summer of 2012, assuming that absolutely nothing changes in the CBA, and that they renounce their rights to all their own free agents, the most space the Knicks can hope to clear is a somewhere around $11.5m - $12m. That is WELL short of where the Chris Pauls and Deron Williams expect to be paid. So basically, they're screwed.

BTW, if I'm the Clippers, and the only position I'm not set at for the next two years is SF, I'm calling the Nuggets and doing everything to get Gallinari. Imagine having another true 3-pt bomber on that team? By all accounts the Nuggets are going to look to move Gallo, and the Clippers still own a Minnesota pick to offer plus they could look to move Kaman and take back a bad contract (like Harrington or Andersen) if it means getting Gallo.

i dont think its too bad wht they gave up. Billups - Felton is pretty much a wash, Chandler wasnt gonna re sign with the knicks anyway, Mozgov I dont rate and Gallo plays Melos position. The Draft picks besides the first rounder probably wont amount to a lot anyway and they kept Fields. I mean Billups, Fields, Melo, Amare, Turiaf is pretty nice. They arent very deep but the never were.

wow our defense just got 100 times worse
I'd argue New Yorks did whereas adding Randolph to that front-line will probably help out Minny?

Yeah the more I think about it the more I think depth isn't that big of an issue - throughout his coaching career, D'Antoni has stuck pretty solidly to an 8-man rotation. It's a question of how well the parts mesh. Can two high usage players co-exist? What happens in D'Antoni's system (P&R, floor spacing etc)? Who's playing defence?
