I'd argue New Yorks did whereas adding Randolph to that front-line will probably help out Minny?

Yeah the more I think about it the more I think depth isn't that big of an issue - throughout his coaching career, D'Antoni has stuck pretty solidly to an 8-man rotation. It's a question of how well the parts mesh. Can two high usage players co-exist? What happens in D'Antoni's system (P&R, floor spacing etc)? Who's playing defence?

Agree with you there. Amare and Melo co existing is a big if. Also can Amare's ego take being the number two guy again? Cause he has been the King of New York but is now instantly bumped down a slot, I mean he went to New York to be the man..interesting times ahead for sure.

Defense is the biggest thing here(besides the fit of Melo/Amare) but they have picked up Brewer who I think can still develop into a nice defensive player on the wings. How's Billups D these days? Azubuike would be handy for them right now if he was healthy. There are some reports they will waive him which is a shame because I really liked Azubuike. Hopefully they re-sign him in the off season but who knows what they will do with their cap if they are trying for D-Will or CP3.

I am bored at work and got to thinking the Knicks have been so bad for so long and they have no talent to show for it...

2010 - #9 but it was traded away years earlier
2009 - #8 Jordan Hill traded for cap space
2008 - #6 Gallinari traded for Melo
2007 - #9 Noah from that bad, bad, bad Eddy Curry trade #23 Chandler traded for Melo (which they got from the EC trade)
2006 - #2 Aldridge again from that terrrrrible eddy curry trade #20 Balkman who is now a Knick again #29 Mardy Collins scrub who I don't think is even in the league any more
2005 - #8 Frye traded after two seasons

I could keep going but you get the point. Man they have rebuilt the hard way when you consider all those top 10 picks.

No point in waiving him next year - it's the summer of 2012 that they're aiming at so they may as well keep Billups around next year.

On the topic of the summer of 2012, assuming that absolutely nothing changes in the CBA, and that they renounce their rights to all their own free agents, the most space the Knicks can hope to clear is a somewhere around $11.5m - $12m. That is WELL short of where the Chris Pauls and Deron Williams expect to be paid. So basically, they're screwed.

Depends how badly CP3 wants out of Nola and how the Knicks look by then if they're doing good I wouldn't be surprised to see him take less for a shot at a ring for a years then cash in after

btw when are the Knicks on tv next?

I suppose it's possible - I guess I'm a little stuck on thinking everything will be the same moving forward when a lot will likely change following the next CBA, i.e. thinking Paul or Williams or Howard will be slated to earn over $18m a year so why accept something around $12m? But if they've got no choice in the matter - if the CBA is different - then it might potentially level the playing field for teams like the Knicks.

From what I've seen of Billups lately, he can't handle the quick points in the game. Stick him on 2s (or big points) though and he does better, but is still far from elite at that end. Both Billups and Melo have been fortunate to have K-Mart, Andersen and Nene behind them, all 3 are above average defenders and help cover their shortcomings. They won't have that protection in NY.

Azubuike I have read has started working out with the team (as has Michael Redd with the Bucks!) but is a long way from being ready. Would be a nice complement to that core, can shoot the 3 and has a knack for scoring. Wouldn't call him competent at the defensive end either though.

f**k me, knicks only have taruif at centre, looks like amarie will be taking turns at centre.

i thought i had the worst hit with my fantasy league.

i have melo, chauncey, galinaro and mozgov.

but i think it will work out.

melo will get more touches at the knicks
chauncey should get more assists
galinaro will should be right but will improve if goes to the nets
mozgov is the only question mark, so i dropped him, dont really care, had him as a temp until camby gets back.

It depends on how much credibility you give this:

"We'll form our own Big 3,'' New Orleans guard Chris Paul said in a toast last summer at Anthony's wedding.

Two of the pieces are there now, only CP3 to come.

Yeah I remember when he said that, but wanting to go to NY and going to NY whilst getting paid $6m less per year (upwards of $25m over the life of the contract) are two different things.

The fact is, as currently constructed, NY will have $12m of cap room in 2012. There is nothing they can do about that, unless they trade either Melo or STAT. And $12m currently represents about 67% of what Chris Paul will be due to earn during the 2012-13 season.

So yeah, he might consider taking a pay cut. But a 33% pay cut? When his knee is dodgy and he might only have one big money contract left in him? I really struggle to see it. But time will tell.

He will make a few mill of that back on Madison Ave.
