Memo To M.Hagan, From M.Johns

Hages has to be the only bloke who can't see it. After around 30 minutes of bumbling and fumbling from both sets of Halves last night, Matty Johns came out and said what a stack of people here have said for what seems an eternity. "Put Doogs at Fullback, move Hornby to 5/8th, and put Kidley to centre where he played so well in his first rep game for country."
It seems it's so obvious to everyone but Hagan.

Yeah I heard that and laughed.

But guess what, Kidley will stay at 5/8th and more than likely will be 5/8th next year at Parra.

Is there anything else the Knights supporters can do to inform Hagan that Kidley is better off in the centres. Maybe fans should start writing up signs and showcase them during games, that read 'K.Gidley to Centre' or ' Gidley-Gidley in the Centres' or 'Kidley for No. 4'.

Far be it for us to claim we know better than Hages. That's not my argument. I don't think it is a matter of getting through to him or making him see sense... obviously he has a plan. I guess my suggestion here is that what we are seeing isn't working. Kurt Gidley performs well in the centres, and can comfortably cover anything from 1 to 7, 9 or 13. That kind of versatility is priceless... I just think it's disappointing that Kurt is being given tasks that he isn't really up to. I keep saying that Kurt is one of the best kick-chasers in the competition, and indeed one of the best one-on-one defenders.

It's a bit of a shame a pretty good centre is being put in the halves when a bloke like Jarrod Mullen could be using this time to get accustomed to bearing the weight of a half a million people within a few years.

Why cant we just play Mullen at 5/8 now and be done with it.Gidley an impact player from the bench. He is a great chaser and has a good step.Bring him on when the forwards are tired and watch him step around them.Mullens time has arrived. If your good enough, your old enough

I think it was more of illustrating the 'if you're good enough, you're old enough' adage, with Fittler as a case in point. You could compare Mullen to Hunt, Marshall, Anasta, any young player that was good enough when they came into first grade, and it's not a comparison of their skill as a player, more of the situation. I don't think it was intended to sound like "Mullen is as good as Fittler".

I'd like to argue that Hunt will struggle in the next 2-3 seasons because his main weapons, his step, will get found out by the defence, and he has not developed enough of a footy brain to adapt, at least for the next couple of years.

Anasta has also struggled with getting his game into top gear, despite being behind a boehmoth forward pack at the dogs.

And marshall, is well, a freak, but Mullen is nowhere near the football that Marshal is at any stage of his career.

Throw kids into the deep end in first grade, you're asking for career problems.

Agreed. My point was only semantic though, that I don't think he was comparing Mullen to Fittler in terms of their skill.

We have a 7-3 record with Kids at 5/8th. We just beat 2 form teams in Broncos and Tigers with Kids at 5/8th. We have gone from 15th to 3rd with Kids at 5/8th. And all you idiots say it every week and Kids is at 5/8th. HINT HINT: Accept it and move on.

The less Mullen plays with Johns the better. Mullen can learn everything he needs from Joey at training. He needs to learn to play and win without him.

On the Kidley at #9 point who will wear 6 considering Mullen is playing U/19's for NSW?

Kidley plays well at 5/8th with Johns in the team, I have issues with him playing there without Johns in the team. Worse still him playing 7 when Johns isn't available.

I think you might have missed the point. Antonius summarises it well:

That too is my concern. Anyone can play well with Johns there... the big test is whether they can do the same without him.

I think you will find that players selected in the U/19's squad are still avaliable for club selection this week.

I don't know if Brown has the passing game for #9.
