Interesting list. I'm not familiar enough with everything on there. Some omission's though. Unless I missed it I'd have River's of Nihil - Where the owl's know my name on the list somewhere. I'd probably have Blackwater Park higher as well, but probably just being biased.
It's a reminder of gotta check out earlier Gojira though.
I'd have BTBam on there too. Colors, Great Misdirect and Future Sequence. If Opeth made it I think BTBam should be as well.

Listening to Cult of Luna -A Dawn to Fear lately, I'd have that on there too. Lol. Certainly over InFlames.
Dark Tranquility's Where Death is most alive should be an there as well unless I missed it.

So yeah, don't really agree.

Tis the good thing about music, it's rare such a list is going to be unanimously thought of as one way or another. I was interested in thoughts from those like yourself who obviously spend a lot of time listening to the genre. I was more into thrash than death so I am not massively familiar with a lot of these bands.

I work with a girl who is a massive Cannibal Corpse fan and she has recently got me into them, they are pretty good although their sound changes a lot somewhere along the way.

Those kind of lists are almost somewhat contentious but it’s at least got pretty much all of the undeniable essentials from the big names in the genre on there. Good place to start if you’re not heavily into DM or looking to fill in some gaps. I’d say my top 10 are all there somewhere.

In Flames 90s stuff was legit. Their modern stuff though. Eesh.

I've seen them live a couple of times at festivals and they even manage to ruin their classics. Absolute wreck of a band now.

The list was good in spots, but Deicide needed to be shown more love, imo.

And as much as I adore Behemoth...well, they're not really death...

Have you heard the Strigoi album yet? It’s basically Vallenfyre slimmed down to a three piece with a bit more of a crust influence, f**king ripping stuff.

sounds like something i need to check out
saw Vallenfyre at a festival, no doubt about 15 beers deep, they were f**king brilliant.

Edit: Yep, that'll do:

I'm slowly putting together a Top 15 Albums of the 2010s
Going back over my favourites from each year and filling in a few gaps that I missed.

It'll probably take a few months.. but maybe an easier question:

Who's your Band of the Decade? Not necessarily the #1 album of the decade, but for consistency or growth or whatever criteria you like.

For me - Gojira
Two albums - one elite (L'Enfant Sauvage) and the other very good (Magma) off the back of which they launched themselves to the top row of festival lineups in the back-end of the decade.
A still-unique sound and accessible while still ruthless.

Metallica showed their set from Melbourne 2013 Soundwave today on their facebook page, f**k it was good, I'm jealous of any of you that witnessed it live.

Who is the best drummer in metal right now and why is it Jamie Saint Merat?
(Album is still #1 on my playlist too and a lock for album of the year)

Digging Lamb Of God's new album - Art Cruz is somehow able to bring a similar sound to Chris Adler, but still make it his own sound.

To my great shame i've never actually listened to loooads of the classic death and black metal albums.
Going back over decades of music while at the same time keeping up with new stuff is an impossible task

Death (the band) are legends, expected them to be high. Very technical though so if you're not into lots of tempo changes, odd time signatures and that kind of thing you might not like them.

only really in the latter half of their career though, first three of albums are far more straight ahead heaviness. They really only got super progressive from Human onwards

Adler was sick

Chris Adler is my favourite drummer.

But honestly - Art Cruz is a beast.

He is able to drum in that unique Lamb Of God way, but still sound like Art Cruz, if that makes sense.

The new album sounds like "old", or "clasic" Lamb Of God, but I'm loving it.
