I've already seen Opeth twice and I'm not much into their newer stuff so I'll be giving them a miss.

Definitely going to try to catch Meshuggah.

Anyone seen Metal: A Headbanger's Journey?

Yep - I own it. Love the interview with Mayhem!

Anyway, I've seen Opeth twice and it will soon be three times!

New album sounds good too although I've only listened to it once.

My main concern is that there is a bit too much acoustic and too little 'heavy' but too early to judge just yet.

Anybody got any Pantera-esque recommendations?

I just had a listen to Entombed, Damageplan, Killswitch Engage and Down. Don't dig any of 'em.

I need -

1. Hard hitting, choppy, brutally precise riffs.
2. No cookie monster vocals.
3. Audible bass.
4. Some semblance of melody.

PS I'm already aware of (and love) Slayer & Machine Head.

Hey I'm late to this thread.

Entombed and Down are in my top 10 all time.

Especially Entombed, just awesome early death metal moving to stoner/doom metal. Wolverine Blues, To Ride Shoot Straight etc are just classic albums.

I also love Mastodon. Was listening to Remission today - just awesome.

Stoner metal rules Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity etc.

And although it's not really metal how f**king good are Clutch. Close to my favourite band on the planet at the moment.

Check out Max Cavalera's new band, Cavalera Conspiracy.(For those playing at home, Max Cavalera was the mind behind Soulfly and Sepultura).CC has a new clip that is awesomely creepy.

Thanks just checked it out - sweet.

Gonna have to get this album. Always loved the Sepuls. Still spewing they cancelled their tour in 96. Had tickets to Waves in the Gong and the BDO (although Fear Factory filled in admirably).

Got their post Max stuff. Not bad but never was the same.

Yeah Cavalera Conspiracy go OK, but they're a bi repetitive I find, after listening to the album a few times.

Didn't like 'Ghost Reveries' at all but I enjoy a lot of Opeth's stuff so I'll probably go see them, making it my 5th time seeing them. They're always faultless live I think also.

I actually quite liked Ghost Reveries - better than Deliverance at least.

Still, nothing beats Morningrise.
