I heard a Rooters fan on twitter crying about penalties, so I took the liberty of checking your pen counts throughout the year.

You've rarely if ever lost the count by more than 2 or 3, and drawn level quite a few times.

This myth of you getting caned in the penalties is just that. And watch once Anasta leaves, you might actually start winning some penalty counts...

We have the largest penalty differential of any team in the NRL. On average we receive about 50-60 less penalties per year than teams like the Broncos, Tigers or Cronulla (who are generally up the top of the penalties received stats).

We have won a dozen penalty counts in the last 60 games of footy we have played (far less than any other side).

Its not a myth, we are easily the most penalised and least penalties received team in the comp every year since 2004.

Piss and moan all you like about it being a myth, but they are the stats.

If it is Anasta's fault why have we only had 1 positive season in regards to penalties received/against since 2000? That includes Fittler, Ricketson, Fitzgibbon and Anasta as captain, Murray, Stuart, Anderson, Fittler and Smith as coach and many players in between.

Teams miraculously become great disciplinarians when playing against us.

So that's the myth of it being Anasta's fault busted.

I think most Easts fans would agree that it's not the penalties we concede but the lack of penalties we receive. Another of man boobs' little myths busted. If we constantly lose the penalty count by 2-3 per week as you say we'll end up -50 to -70 as a penalty differential. Penalties in 2012 determine momentum and decide games, Greg Bird's tackle in origin a prime example.
