Michael Ennis's conversation with the referee at last night's game against the Roosters was peppered with the F- word. This on national television in front of an audience of hundreds of thousands. He was chastised briefly by one Fox Sports commentator, but this was hardly enough. The club and the NRL need to discipline him. A $10,000 fine would be a start.
It is one thing for Ennis to be unable to hold a conversation in the locker room or in a bar without using foul language. It is another thing for him to do this on national television. The referee should have told him to stop immediately or he would be sent to the Sin Bin.
This incident confirms the view of many people, including some soft-core fans, that rugby league is a game played by thugs and moral lowlife.
NRL CEO David Gallop, Canterbury CEO Todd Greenberg and the Canterbury coach Hasler (himself a bit of a rough piece of work) need to discipline this foul mouthed man, so that he understands that he has responsibilities on how to talk in public, especially on television.
