Guys there was an article in the Illawarra Mercury yesterday, regarding Ennis, he has got a severe middle ear infection and it is affecting his balance, however he is expected back next week.

Dragons welcome rejected Rabbitoh

GETTING dumped by South Sydney usually means the end of the road but veteran centre Shane Marteene's career path has detoured straight into St George Illawarra's first grade team.

The Dragons yesterday signed the released Rabbitoh and coach Nathan Brown had no hesitation in naming him to play the Knights at Newcastle on Saturday.

Even without five State of Origin stars and another five established first graders in Michael Ennis, Mathew Head, Corey Payne, Albert Torrens and Reece Simmonds, Marteene's selection will still raise eyebrows.

Souths coach Shaun McRae dropped the former Bulldog, who turns 28 next week, before their 42-10 loss to the Dragons a fortnight ago.

The second last-placed Rabbitohs issued a press release the following week announcing they had mutually decided to part company.

"I am very happy to have this opportunity and am very much looking forward to playing with the Dragons," Marteene said.

"It appears to be a great club and hopefully I can do a job for them."

Wes Naiqama, who has overcome a foot injury, will join Marteene in the centres to fill the void NSW duo Mark Gasnier and Matt Cooper have left.

Daniel Holdsworth, Ashton Sims and Justin Poore have replaced St George Illawarra's other Blues representatives Trent Barrett, Jason Ryles and Luke Bailey, respectively.

Ben Hornby has been switched to halfback for the injured Albert Torrens with Clint Greenshields taking over at fullback.

Young forwards Bryan Norrie and Michael Henderson have been added to the bench, while Ennis - a late withdrawal from last week's 34-12 win over Penrith - is still being bothered by a middle ear infection and will miss the match against his former club.

When Risa told me last night (while waiting 2 and a half hours to get into Pink Salt) I nearly cried (Troy will confirm this fact too!)

I am telling you that Michael Ennis will be back in the Red and Blue come 2007 (seeing as his Dragons contract ends at the end of next season.. jeez Troy, don't you know anything about you're club? )

I think he will play. As I have been telling Troy he is from Newcastle he is tough!

What considering I told you about it? Whaaaaaaaaaaaatever! and yes I can confirm she was nearly crying, hense it being funny for me. It aint funny however that Michael Ennis won`t be playing.... After all he`s coming to his own this season at the Dragons, unlike when he was at the Knights....

While ever Bedsy's at the Knights, Ennis is no chance of returning, so given Bedsy's just signed a new life deal with the Knights, it is highly unlikely Ennis would return.

In a recent article, Ennis stated that if he was to leave the Dragons for any reason after his deal runs out in 2006, he stated the Broncos are his preferred team.

if the knights ,so called comittee, where any good, they would have kept all there younger players, thats why they can,t win a game.why loose all those players then sign unprofessianals from the local comp. even balmain p/l had a x knights 1/2 back a lot better than your a grade so called 1/2 backs

How can you keep a player that wants to play hooker, when you have the current NSW & Australian hooker in the team?

Would you bide your time in Premier League for years waiting for an opportunity?

I don't think so!
