Mick Crawley joins Dragons as Coaching Advisor

I have a feeling that Crawly will be reporting to the CEO and providing advice to him and all levels of coaching staff within the Club.

This above..for sure. The new fly on the wall for the board and Johnno to find out exactly what is going on..good and bad and recommend CHANGES...we hope....or not!.
Could be also paying someone to try and flog a dead horse.
But you would think why employ and throw more money at another consultant when someone on the board themselves should be finding out what is going on. Yes..that is what they do these days in corporate / board power.

And if it is someone for the coaching staff to turn to for advice, 2nd opinions etc..well that should be handled within our illustrious experienced current coaching team...appointed by the board.
Sounds like the board have lost confidence in what they have got just like we have been screaming out for a couple of years.

So in the wash up..he is not one of the boys club..so I am OK with it..as long as it does not turn out to be a failure and a waste of money like the Mulholland..who ends up going to Canberra, recent consultant end of year reviews, David Warwick who ends up at the Tigers and Agar appointments were.
I am worried we purchase another discard..this time from Canberra who clearly have been underachieving and they have found Crawley to be the reason..
.Crawley maybe just another body to be thrown in a coaching past use by date mosh pit.
Lets see what comes of this...

Agree Brutalitops
If he is given the freedom to look after the attacking side great news.
But then what is hornby's job that is what he was employed to do.
But if we can attack like that Raiders team . It will be worth it.

I’ve never really rated Hornby and Young as assistants.

When you consider former head coaches in Jason Taylor, John Cartwright and David Furner were in coaching staffs of other teams, that’s some pretty good coaching nous available.

Then I see Young and Hornby sitting next to Mary, we look pretty amateur in comparison.

Don’t know much about this guy, but if he can bring in some new ideas, that could be a good thing.

Agree! Hornby/Young are as much an issue as Mary.

This is where a proper coaching apprenticeship is invaluable. Not a single member of our 2018 coaching staff had coached in a successful structure. Not sure if I’d class any of Crawley’s apprenticeship as ‘successful’ (compared to JD, for example).

All in all, a strange, confusing appointment that seems to be more deflection from the real problems!

Our attack has been one dimensional for years now. When Plan A is working like at the start of the year, we’re ok. But when some variation is required, Mary and Hornby have no idea.

With Widdop, Hunt and Norman on the park together, opportunities are endless provided a proper attacking platform utilising the 3 of them is employed.

I’m guessing there isn’t a lot of confidence in Mary and Hornby to come up with an effective attack with 3 genuine playmakers together hence this new bloke has been brought in.

Before the ownership announcement there was a post by WTC (maybe) that said that the new CEO coming in was aware of the coaching issues and steps would be taken.

This bloke is an outside - has some reasonable performace elsewhere and is a clean set of eyes to look in on the place.

This is one appointment that i would be willing to actually give some time/credence to. As long as he is allowed to do his job.

Yes, an ïnside man " to give the board a a independent appraisal on the 3 stooges worth. Least i hope so .It is difficult to really tell if Mary is the problem or Young & Hornby are useless. Cant see the ( GM ? ) Craig Young liking this.

No wonder Mary has difficulty coaching..

Fluffing 13 people is a full time job in itself...

So I hear anyway...
Evidently the boys are very happy to "play" for him and they say he has got hands that would make a milking maid envious.

More suitable to a vocation in the eastern suburbs?

I really don't see an issue. I'd say the football Club is given a budget that is broken down into sub-items of which over a certain dollar spend there a delegations of authority. It is for the CEO to manage this and where applicable either reports spending in scheduled Board meetings or submit recommendations for spending which is outside the CEO's delegation of authority. All normal practice.

I'd say that our new CEO is concerned with the quality of coaching within the Club and wants to address this for season 2019, while at the same time, be in possession of information needed to support his recommendations to the Board regarding the next contracts for coaching staff.

Go for it and let's see what happens!
