That was a ugly win.
Both packs cancelled each other out.
Our defence got us home.
The conditions must have been a lot worse than they looked because we just couldn't hold onto the ball.
Staines learnt a valuable lesson about letting kicks bounce but overall I thought he did quite well for his first 80 minute fullback game, especially against decent opposition.
I am always happy to win against the Eels but it feels a bit hollow for some reason.
Probably just concern that a lot of our structures seem to fall apart without Cleary.

The bye is massive and comes at perfect time. If May is picked in the halves when we come back and Nathan goes down. We are cooked imo. Such a bad call from Ivan tonight and I'm not blaming May but he's not up to it and never will be

All depends if Luai backs up or not really. Full squad he shouldn't be 7

Mary, is that you?
Papalihi comes down on his elbow and the ball pops out. "Not the cleanest put down..." they said lol. Sivo is flat on the ground with the ball on the f**king ground and May's hand on him. New rules on the fly.

That was a really gritty win. As poor as we looked through the hands, our defense was excellent and our middle third comfortably the better pack on the night. They had a few half chances but their only real threats were Moses attacking kicks and Papalii. Considering we were playing the third best team in the league on a night where we dropped stupid amounts of ball in the first 40 we held up very well.

The penalty was an incredibly dumb moment from Martin. Ivan was very generous in shifting the blame to Waqa. Martin runs well across his line and while he makes the most of it he's entitled to. Worst part is that Waqa was never getting to the kick. Insanity. What is it with us and short kick offs? We seem to f**k up even the gimmies.

Kikau tried hard. Made some big tackles and threatened to break loose without fully managing too. Still, his biggest moments tonight where when two small men made "massive" tackles on him. Seems to happen a lot.

Thought Staines was really good. His one big error got punished super hard but other than that he did little wrong. His try saver on Sivo was unbelievable. Didn't get enough attention but it was the kind of thing I thought we'd miss without Edwards who scrambles very well. Crichton doesn't get anywhere near that play. With functioning halves and I think he carves up edges with his backline movements in a way none of our other FB options do. I like Edwards but I think he'll be hard to dislodge if he gets some game time with Nathan.

Which brings us to May. Kind of fish in a barrel stuff, but he's really ordinary. Doesn't threaten while running. Passing is poor. Regularly a handbrake when trying to spread the ball. Puts more pressure on Luai (who was also quiet). Overall just bald and it stands out in such a dynamic team. I got the sense Ivan saw it from his comments in the presser but we missed a trick not giving Burton/Luai a run in a tough game here.

Liked Nadens work mostly, though he struggled a bit with Sivo defensively. Sorensen good. Too, Yeo and Fish all awesome as always. Api great too, hope he can continue to step up in Nathans absence.

That was my first thought on the Sivo try but never got a really clean look at it. I thought the Papalii one was fine though.

Tonight’s game was incredibly important in the context of our season. It has pretty much guaranteed us a top 2 finish.

We are two wins clear of Parra, plus we have an extra 100 F/A. We have 8 games left to play, as do Parra.

That means even if we win 6/8 and Parra win 8/8 we will still finish 2nd at worst.

For Parra to over take us they would need to win 8/8 and us drop 3 games.

Now that's some good news.

Still got Souffs to worry about but we play them again so easy sorted

Gutho had a big performance, threw the intercept to get us up field before our fist try and then threw a foward pass before our second try, then to cap it all off Moses chokes on the game winner. Parra are flat track bullies if you ask me, they should’ve let Moses walk.
