I just realised after labelling the thread title "Mikey's Winners' Circle" that I am not sure many people know and/or care that Mikey is me...Ah, well.
I just finished watching an epic show called "NFL's Greatest Games" It's basically a narrated highlights reel of the NFL's greatest matches. This episode featured Super Bowl XXXII, between the favourites (the Green Bay Packers) and the massive underdogs (the Denver Broncos).
Now, history will show that the Broncos, lead by their quarterback John Elway, won this game. But what interested me from the story was thus: John Elway, regarded as one of the NFL's true greats, played in five Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXI, Super Bowl XXII, Super Bowl XXIV, Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII. He only won the last two.
John Elway's story can be paralleled to Hindy imo - they both were "getting on" by the time success came (Elway was 38 by the time he won his first Super Bowl), they were both legends of the game and huge crowd favourites. They also suffered bitter defeats before tasting success.
Now, this comforts me, personally, because I think it would be a great injustice if a legend like Hindy didn't geta Premiership before retiring. I guess what I am trying to say is that the anecdote I posted combined with our coaching and playing rosters improving dramatically over the next few seasons indicates, at least to me, that a title isn't far off.
Sorry...I know you'll all find it pretty boring, but I found it interesting. And I know NFL and NRL are totally different sports and demand different things physically and mentally from their athletes.
Have a nice day. d(' ')b
