The whole 'Mini in his prime' thing is one of the biggest overstatements in discussing our game. There is no doubt it is driven by the fact Slater is highly dislike in New South Wales.

As soon as you have to insert a disclaimer, such as....... "in his prime". All seriousness of comparisons are lost.

I heard Sterlo last week describe a mistake that "Mini" had just made against the Tigers, that one of Minichello's constant weaknesses throughout his career has been over running the loose ball when he tries to clean up a kick.

"Constant weaknesses" and this sounds like greatness...??

In his prime or not.......greatness gets thrown around so easily in NSW, particularly when describing one of their own.

I don't like Slater. I don't like Melbourne. I don't like Mini. I hate the Roosters.

Formalities out of the way, Mini by far in his prime.

If Minichiello were a QueeNZlander he'd be considered equal to Slater. All this "slater revolutionized the game" is a load of bullshit users to falsely justify the wankfest that surrounds Slater.

"I've never seen a fullback be the point of attack" well I guess you missed Darren Lockyer at fullback. A lot of people here forget just how good Minichiello was but it doesn't surprise me since people here constantly say Brad Fittler was overrated. I guarantee if this website is around in 10 years Slater will not be considered the all time legend he is today.

This is from 3 years ago, Slater has done nothing since then but increase the daylight whatever his character may be.

Alot of rose coloured glasses been worn in regards to Minichello and Slater.

Theres a struck match between them. Minichello may have been the stronger ball runner and a bit safer - though he could be woeful with the ball on the ground - but Slater has him covered in cleaning up, ball-playing and that most critical factor of a FB, postioning.

Edited to add looking at Mini's peak period from 04-06 and Slaters from 07-09 there are some interesting stats there.

Minichello 141 errors, Slater 112
Minichello 42 tries, Slater 44
Minichello 15 try-assists, Slater 48
Minichello 59 line-breaks, Slater 60
Minchello 16 LB assists, Slater 49.

Those are some pretty compelling numbers for Slater over Minichello and thats not even taking into account that Slater had some pretty decent years from 04-06. Of course Minichello looked more comfortable in SOO then Billy, but I think thats because his style of game is more suited then Bills, who doesnt have near as much freedom at that level as he does for the Storm.

That may or may not be the case and while i like Minichiello and he's been a great player, they'll be talking about Slater a long long time after they will be Mini whether it be on here or anywhere else.

I'm a Roosters supporter and I love Mini, but Slater is something else.

I would have to say that Mini in his prime wasn't far behind Billy, but Billy has been consistently amazing for a decade.

Wow?! This must've happened when I was overseas and not following the NRL closely. Seven weeks for kicking someone. f**k. What a grub. I knew he leads with his kness and is a bit of a sledger, but didn't know he did this shit...
