Seems all these people who say its a non contest with slater miles ahead, are the young'uns who weren't around to see mini at his best. Fair enough to the people who think slater is better after legitimitely comparing the two, but anyone who thinks its a non contest didnt watch a game 6-8 years ago. And one has to remember that slater has, and is still playing behind an illegally assembled team.

Without going too deep into it, I still think Slater is the better player.

One area in particular that Mini was better, before he hurt his back, was the ability to bust tackles virtually all the time. If anyone has those stats, please post them.

Slater for mine comfortably.

Minichello was a better defensive player (I.E - Tackling, Reading of the game, positional play, safety under the bombs), but he didnt have that xfactor that slater has (which not many people do). to me while minichello was very good, he was never quite as good as people said and i dont think he was ever really the best player in the world (despite the fact he won)

I think that it would be a better discussion had Mini not had such a debilitating injury because they would be neck a neck.
But as it stands, Slater is the superior fullback.

Unfair comparison. Slater never had a debilitating injury that cut him down in his prime. I can't really make an objective judgement as I've always been a big fan of the Count, and the only player I've ever hated more than Slater is Alfie.

One thing I will say is that for those who love him, Billy's shit doesn't stink. Billy's best is very, very good, but his worst is very bad, yet always seems to pass without comment.

Edit: Slater isn't close to the best fullback ever, let alone the best player.

But how can you forget the last 3 years in origin? He was unbelievable..

Both really good players but Slater is better. Better and better for longer. People say Slater is lucky with injuries but Mini was lucky Lockyer moved to 5/8. No way he would have ousted Lockyer from the Australian fullback spot.

Mini was the better tackle-buster and metre-eater. Freakish strength and power.

I'd take Billy in every other department though.

One thing that for me makes it a no-contest is the difference in their ballplaying. Slater sets up so many tries. Minichiello just never had the coordination to execute passes at pace.

So to answer the question, Slater. Both are/were outstanding fullbacks though.
