All these negative stories are what the NRL is known for. I don't think the NRL can stop the dopes from being dopey but what they should be doing is getting a lot more positivity out there somehow. I have started threads before with suggestions that always get mocked but I think the NRL needs to do it (the clubs are too zero'd in on performance).
We fell behind on other codes in the women's game for example and the clubs are too dumb to see that that would have been a good way to address this negative perception.
Another wacky idea I had was to have an NRL choir (I know, I know). There are dozens of things like that the NRL could try to do but everyone is just too dumb.
