NRL star Mitchell Pearce called off his wedding at almost the last minute after allegedly sending flirty texts to a female employee at the club.
Newcastle Knights captain Pearce and his partner Kristin Scott were due to tie the knot in front of 150 guests at Byron Bay, on the
NSW north coast, on Tuesday.
Guests, some of whom had already travelled to Byron Bay, were told as late as
Christmas Eve that the
Covid-19 pandemic forced the nuptials to be postponed.
However, the wedding was called off after Pearce allegedly told some teammates he sent racy texts to a young Knights employee in the week before Christmas.
'The Newcastle Knights are aware of the issue but it's a private matter that stays between the two individuals,' the team said on Sunday.

Ms Scott and the female employee's partner are understood to have seen the alleged messages, and Pearce and his fiancee celebrated Christmas separately.
A club source told the
Daily Telegraph the alleged flirtation was confined to the series of messages and 'nothing physical' occurred.
'There's been nothing physical, just stupidity on Mitchell's behalf with a young girl who works at the club. A lot of people are upset about it,' they said.
Pearce insisted the wedding was only been postponed, not cancelled, and the couple were 'sorting things out'.
'I'm filthy about people spreading rumours,' he said.
Daily Mail Australia contacted the Knights and Pearce for comment.
Pearce and Ms Scott made public their relationship in May 2019 before Pearce proposed in April 2020.
He bought a 2.5 carat solitaire oval diamond worth about $40,000 for an engagement ring.
A gushing Ms Scott took to social media to share the good news with her followers.

Mitchell is the captain of the Newcastle Knights and has previously told media he intends to take the club to their first premiership in 20 years.
In 2016, Pearce, who was playing with Sydney Roosters at the time, stirred controversy after he was videoed simulating sexual activity with a dog on Australia Day.
He was fined $125,000 and suspended for eight NRL matches.
