NRL star tests positive to cocaine
EXCLUSIVE by James Hooper
NORTH Queensland Cowboys prop Mitchell Sargent has been sacked from the NRL club after returning a positive test to cocaine.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Sargent returned a positive in-house test to the recreational drug earlier this month. The Cowboys have torn up Sargents contract and his future in the NRL remains unclear. The Country Origin props future remains unclear with the NRL expected to impose the mandatory two-year ban on Sargent. The NRL has been informed of the positive drug test and a spokesman said the Cowboys would issue a press release later today. Sargent is the first NRL player sinces Manlys Andrew Walker in 2004 to test positive to a recreational drug. The positive drug test is the latest drama for the Cowboys who have slipped from grand finalists last year to missing the cut for the top eight in 2006.
