1986 and what a great year it was!!...the side had greats like Sterling, Kenny, Grothe, Price....Manly's 95-97 side had greats like Danny Moore, Craig Innes, Jim Serdaris, Shannon Nevin, Anthony Collela

Stop living in the past Swoop and concentrate on the present....just remember in 96 you where premiers and in 2000 you merged ...the premiership didn't do much

Let's concentrate on the present Ron, your mob has a hefty turnover (players) for the last 4 or 5 years and have come up empty.

My point is that there are Parramatta fans coming in here gloating about their 8 club championships in a row. Now the question is are the fans happy that or should they be asking why haven't we won a premiership with all that back-up.

Parramatta have now let Hodgson go but haven't replaced with another big signing. Parramatta have not made too many major signings recently!

I see much of the same for Parramatta next year, hovering around the top 8 but not a real premiership contender!

I've stated on this forum that, I think with the players that we've got Manly will finish around 10th next year. But the following couple of years I expect them to be in the finals! We are not the once cashed up club we used to be but things will turn around!!

BTW Yes, we merged in 2000 but you neglect to state the reason why. We used plenty of dollars in the ARL/SL war. Had Manly jumped to super league the ARL would have been defeated!

Your club seemed to think Cannings was a pretty major loss? He was major enough to be dropped to the bench at least anyway!

When was the last major signing you guys made??? Thats right - it was that player that you had signed that was still playing in the finals - only problem was he was Chris Hicks and it was the Premier League finals!

yep I'll admit I wanted him to stay but not for $230000,we bought 3 forwards for that that are younger and fitter.I can see how you think it is good value thou especially after paying the money you did for Dykes & Green.Players aren't going to england any more for that one last pay out,Parra is the place to be.The new transit lounge.

If you read my post properly: I said that Parramatta haven't made too many signings recently! Yes, Cannings was a big loss for us but he is about the only big signing so far!

And to answer your question about major signings your should read another part of my previous post where I said that Manly aren't the cashed up club they used to be!

Manly haven't got the funds at the moment to spend their entire salary cap but have made some good signings which is geared for the long term not just a quick fix.

On the other hand Parramatta are supposed to be cashed up but haven't made too many significant signings, they've once again have bought a fair few fringe players rather than concentrate on buying 2 or 3 big guns instead! What, is your club going for another club championship?

We already have the big guns - Lyon, Hindmarsh, Cayless and a few who will develop that way in Witt, Graham, Cannings and Thorman. We made fringe signings to increase depth. The closest you guys get to depth is the depth of despair at the end of each season.

By the way your post actually said "too many major signings".

The only thing your team is planning for the future is the farewell party when Max's money runs out! Exactly how many pieces of property does the club have left to sell?

A certain "pokie tax" may put you guys in the same predicament so don't laugh to loud.

I don't know about that Swoop...we where Minor premiers in 2001 which is still held in high regard these days....sure it wasn't a GF win but?? 2001 will always be remembed for Parra's brillance!!.

We have won some 7's trophys & off course the much sort after 8 straight Club Championships

Parramatta have now let Hodgson go but haven't replaced with another big signing. Parramatta have not made too many major signings recently!

Hodgson was released because he wanted somewhere in the range off $200-250,000...this was way to much even for a great player like him but if he wasn't so injury prone we may have spent that amount, i think Parra offered him $150,000.

Parra have already got ready made replacements for him in Luke Burt, Ashley Graham & to a far lesser degree Wade Mc Kinnon who before he wen't to Souths was a smashing success in the succesfull 2001 Parramatta First Division side.

I've stated on this forum that, I think with the players that we've got Manly will finish around 10th next year. But the following couple of years I expect them to be in the finals! We are not the once cashed up club we used to be but things will turn around!!

Unlikely...i see Manly being more competitive & better in there D but?? i can't see them finishing higher then say 12th.....there so many clubs with better squads, maybe the year after they could be a genuine chance of making the 8 or around the mark.

Manly are still very skinny out wide IMO.

BTW Yes, we merged in 2000 but you neglect to state the reason why. We used plenty of dollars in the ARL/SL war. Had Manly jumped to super league the ARL would have been defeated

The same could be said for Parramatta if they jumped ship.

I thought we were going to have a debate about the present but you can't other than to bag Manly.

You make fringe signings every year, that's your problem! That's why you've won 8 club championships in a row. Your club has had a mass exodus of players for the last few years.

Ok, you've got 3 big guns but instead of buys lots of fringe players why not buy a couple more big names and use what's left to bolster your depth!

Wining a Club Championship has alot to do with being succesfull in Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Jersey Flegg & to a lesser degree First Division. So your argument about recruiting fringe first graders to bulk up our First Division side is irrelevant.
