It won't be so fantastic if he moves to the warriors and takes Benji with him. Benji
is priceless in terms of marketing for the Tigers.

Sheens is the bloke with all the power, and he looked pretty relaxed in that press
conference.

As long as Robbie and Woods stay I couldn't give a f**k if Benji follows Sheens because I'm sure Moltzen would go to. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Benji isn't bigger than the club.

Benji doesn't have that clause in his contract anymore

If benji has a sook about sheens leaving he can f**k off with him, no one can hold the club to ransom.

Benji is our marketing, and our revenue. Obviously Robbie and Woods must go nowhere
but that isn't relevant.

Don't care.
His influence (ego) is part of the problem with the club.
If he wants to follow his mentor to another struggler, go ahead but please take Moltz.

f**k the marketing......if benji wants to follow Sheens it tells me he doesnt want to grow, isnt prepared to change, and will not adapt for anyone.
We need to get away from this very stagnant attitude

Benji is going backwards anyway. DCE an Barba are becomi g the new kids on the block. Benji should be blaming Sheens for that and not praising him.

I hate to agree with this but Benji to me over the last couple of seasons had proved the doubters wrong. I think he carried us and was fantastic.

This year he has been good on occasions however his overall season has been terrible. Too many mistakes when he should have been stepping up. I think the lack of players around him hurt him however reality is that he needs to have a massive couple of seasons going forward or he will never reach the level that he should have.

That first half against Melbourne when he gifted then 2 tries was simply unacceptable. That cannot happen again especially in pressure games.

Altho he is going backwards i still wouldnt want him to leave. He just needs to be put back into his rightful position and allowed to be the great player he can be.

Priority must be Farah, I'd hate to lose him to Parramatta.

He has carried this team, forget the flair of Benji which has been fantastic, look at the way Benji has performed in the last few weeks. Farah might have a shocker but the team comes first for Farah and that is important.

Now do the Warriors need a reserve back as well? Maybe even a NZ international who plays backrow?

Staying in business matters, so "f**ck the marketing doesn't cut it".
I thought the plan was to ease the guy aside into a coaching directors
role (a token appointment) so he couldn't toddle off with Benji.

I'm not a football expert, but I reckon I know a powerful egostist when
I see one and that is Sheens. The trick is making him take a back seat
without interfering.

An outside appointment of Steve Folkes is the go. No galahs trying to
bring back Steve Ghosn, no Steve Roach, and no internal appointment
to appease both sides (Skando and Payten virtually retired yesterday).

Oh yeah, you are right about Benji though, he needs to grow up.

Sheens offered the take (or walk) position of coaching director????

Before all this blew up, the original plan was for the club to ease him aside (as I
understood it). Sheens is playing power games, and I doubt they will sack him and
I reckon he thinks they won't sack him. But it they do sack him, he has no shortage
of options, and it will be very costly to the Tigers if Benji spits it.

Who's plan was it to "ease" him aside? Have you got any links?

I think you want to have your cake and eat it to...

If Benji is going to spit the dummy if Sheens gets moved on, then let him go as well...

As others have said, no one individual is bigger than the club.

Maybe CrazyTiger, but WT desperately need a broom for a clean out and a kick up the bum to wake up to themselves. I dont think we can afford not to go in hard and make changes and not be afraid of the fallout.

Lets hope the current situation and its resolution (however that may be) doesnt force out either Farah or Marshall but in the end, the club should be greater than any player, or coach.

March 2010- One years extension
Sheens up for a challenge - coach signs one-year extension
Date March 27, 2010
Glenn Jackson
Wests Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys reckons Tim Sheens wanted ''a challenge'' by extending his contract by just one season, rather than a longer-term deal, after the mentor moved to end the coaching merry-go-round speculation - at least at his club - by re-signing until the end of next year.
A mid-afternoon coffee at Chiswick, just hours before the Tigers' 23-12 win over Parramatta at the SFS last night, clinched the deal for Sheens and the Tigers, after the club's board on Thursday night endorsed the decision to offer him a one-year deal.
Humphreys said he could understand the logic that Sheens wanted to place some pressure on himself to succeed at a club which, under him, has failed to make the finals since a premiership win in 2005.
''Tim understands more than anyone that this is a results-orientated business and whilst we've been in the hunt each year since the '05 success, we haven't quite made it,'' Humphreys said. ''We have to take that next step. I think he's challenging himself somewhat and I'm sure he's genuine in that for whatever reason he can't get us to that next step, we'll move on from there. Hopefully that's an academic situation.''
Sheens all but confirmed that when he said: ''I asked for a year, not any longer than that, to work with this group. And if I can't get it to happen, I won't be here. I'd stand down myself on that basis. It just gives us a bit of room - we're not thinking this year about who's going to be coaching and the speculation, which this season doesn't need. If we're going to do anything this season … that's why it's been good that a number of the guys have re-signed also. There's not going to be that speculation about players and taking their mind off it.
''It doesn't guarantee I'm going to be there [after his contract runs out]. We've still got to do the job.
''It's still business as usual, it just means I've got another 12 months on a piece of paper.''
Some, though, had hoped for a longer-term deal.
''I'm not happy it's only one year, it should be five or six,'' Benji Marshall quipped. ''But the way he coaches suits the way that I like playing.
''We've got a good relationship, not only on the field but off it as well. He was first to come when my father passed away [last December]. He turned up to New Zealand to the funeral. Not many coaches do that.''
The move by Sheens, a four-time premiership coach who has taken charge of 595 first-grade matches during 26 years at Penrith, Canberra, North Queensland and the Tigers, will end any short-term rumours about his future, which have been constant in recent times.
There had been talk about Sheens coaching at South Sydney, with their co-owner Russell Crowe a fan of his. The Herald understands Newcastle also sought out the Test coach after Brian Smith quit the club for the Roosters last year.
''Tim's a coach that all of us players respect and he's a reason why a lot of us have re-signed,'' Tigers captain Robbie Farah said. Humphreys, who said Sheens was ''constantly reinventing himself as a coach'', was adamant the club had not looked at any other coaches and said the ''last thing we wanted was to be was distracted by speculation or rumour'', hence the need to quash any.
''He brings an enormous amount of experience and expertise to the club. He's the ultimate professional … Tim's respect goes beyond football,'' Humphreys said. ''Having said that, we need to get success on the field. We're all very clear about the value Tim brings to the club but we're also acutely aware now of the need to bring success to the club.''

April 2011- Extended 3 more years

Sheens stays with Tigers to finish the job
By AAP, 30 Apr 2011
Fresh from inking a new deal that will tie him to the Wests Tigers until the end of 2014, Tim Sheens revealed that he still has some unfinished business at the club.
Sheens knocked back a huge offer to return to Penrith, reportedly worth $2 million over four years, in favour of a three-year deal with the Tigers and he admitted a big factor behind his decision to stay was the impressive young group of players coming through.
Now in his ninth season at the club, Sheens guided the Tigers to the 2005 premiership with a talented team built around young stars headed by Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah, both of whom remain key figures.
“I’m really pleased with my decision, I have a lot of unfinished business here which I’m looking forward to tackling,” the Australian coach said in a statement.
Club chief executive Stephen Humphreys admitted he felt some relief: “We’re very pleased of course, but I don’t mind admitting I’m a little relieved as well,” Humphreys told AAP.
“At the end of the day Tim had a few things to way up.
“We’re all pleased he’s decided to stay at Wests Tigers and complete some of the business that he’s been heavily involved in to date.
“I know he’s very keen to continue to develop the exciting young talent coming into the side and that will emerge for the next year or two in first grade.
“I know that was a motivating factor for him to stay. He’s worked closely with the more senior players in this group for a few years too, so he wants to see the results of that as well.”
Humphreys said the fact Penrith had weighed in with a hefty offer eventually worked in the Tigers’ favour.
“Clearly the Penrith offer was a very tempting one, both in financial terms and in it’s length of term,” he added.
“It was an offer that certainly made him stop and have a think about it.
“But in hindsight it was probably welcome (by Wests Tigers) in some respects, sometimes you need a tangible alternative to realise what’s important to you and help you weigh up what you want.”
Humphreys also confirmed that Sheens would see out all three years as coach – contrary to reports which suggested the veteran mentor would be moved towards a coaching director role.
“The reports (that he would be considered as a coaching director in this contract) were off-the mark,” Humphreys said.
“I can see Tim fulfilling such a role in the future of course, but right now he’s just too effective as an NRL coach to take him away from that.”

Yes amrketing is important, but we'd cope post benji, we will have to one day.
I doubt he'd follow.....but if he does, it says his father figures more important to him than his footy....we dont need that, we arent a charity.

Putting Sheens in a senior coaching directrors roles wont ease him anywhere, as you said...hes a powerful egotist, he will want to have control of whoever is coach, it will be nothing more than a new position for him, a step up and in control of a head coach....his ego wont allow anything less
Folkes = gone
Longmuir= gone
Sheens = remains
