Morris wasn't the only Shark caught in a net, there were enough dumb plays to lose 3 games

I think the initial contact with Ballin was ok, given he was running back onside.
I think where he went wrong was dragging him down and hanging on to him, gave the refs no choice but to penalise him.

I haven't seen the incident, but was it anything comparable to Houston getting sin binned last week? All Houston did was make contact with Ennis while getting back onside and he was sent for 10 minutes- no attempted tackle, Ennis wasn't knocked down and any interference was negligible at worst.

The markers were square. They are allowed to move as soon as the ball clears the ruck, they don't have to stay in place until the dummy half picks it up.

Were they? I have only seen the incident once, but from what i can remember when the ball was played neither marker was anywhere near onside. By the time Gallen had picked up the ball they had moved back into position but were standing side by side.

If the rules do state you can't obstruct an offside player then the penalty is correct.

How do you figure that?

The theory is that the NRL want an all Sydney grand final, with two Sydney teams playing in one match it doesn't matter who won this match if that theory were true.
Which prove's Thurston's theory was f*cked to begin with!

Just looking at the play from another angle, surely the markers were both offside, so legally they wouldn't have been allowed to take part in the play anyway. Morris knocking them over would then be a non event.

I realise you cannot tackle a player who hasn't got the ball so the penalty was probably the right call. But if Ballin attempts to make a tackle on Gallen he should be penalised for offside as he clearly wasn't square at marker.
How can he be square when some dickwad has tackled you to the ground ffs?

That aside, no one was at dummy half anyway. It took about 4 seconds before someone (Gallen) reacted. Then he runs and a player is obstructed from making a tackle. If Ballin wasn't on the ground with the NRL's longest serving gimp lying on top of him, whoever was dummy half would have nailed him anyway!

I'm with Yosemite here. The moment they called for a review of the incident I arced up because Ballin was never square.

Infuriating.

Morris gets penalised for obstruction - I guess that was the ruling - of a player who would have (should have) been penalised if he did make the tackle to stop Gallen.

Johnny looked a bit grey in his post match interview, the poor bastard.

The only thing that shits me about it is the manly player made no attempt to stay standing, he felt the tug from behind and fell with him - they were both there on the ground flailing about like idiots.

I'd let the try stand for the diving alone, but the refs don't have that latitude.

Dumb dumb play and he knows it.

What's the exact rule on dummy half btw? Once it's cleared the ruck it's fair game afaik. Ballin looked reluctant to run around and pick that ball up for fear of a penalty.

Get your hand off it ya twat. Ballin was knocked unexpectedly from behind.
First off how was he to know it was a Sharks player that bumped him? Ballin is a no nonsense player who would do his best to make the next tackle, not dive.
Secondly, He had been tackling non stop for 70+ mins, lead the tackle count, at that point a breeze would have knocked him over. Dive. Yeah right.

Not a sin bin offense but it might well be the dumbest thing ive ever seen on a professional football field
up there with fat boy dunning's field goal

As for the idea Ballin went do easily, or was diving... Morris actually wraps his arms around him as if he's making a proper tackle, he clearly dragged Ballin down with him, can not fathom the stupidity of that play

Well I am being overly harsh, but if you've got time to reach out and appeal to the ref before you go down then you've got time to try and stay on your f**king feet.

Btw go f**k urself ya dipshit.

Lovely place this.

edit- talking to old mate above. I know dive is the wrong word and I'm probably wrong but f**k me who makes an attempt to stay upright in the game these days. More important to fall and appeal for a penalty
