Morts gone to Roosters

Pete, Mortimer played over 50 1st grade games with no major injuries.
Like I said, only thing holding Scott Prince back were injuries not skill. Your examples dont relate to the topic.

Lets just see how he goes. Not a chance that he'll ever be a major loss....NEVER. With the signing of Hopoate who will most probably play fullback and Hayne will move to 6, can't see how some people are saying he'll be a massive loss.

If the kid had a bit more size and pace it would do wonders for him. Hope he succeeds with Roosters, he deserves it

I agree. I enjoy Rugby League for what it is - a game..big change from the days when I was fanatical about it..
I like the bloke (Daniel) because, in my opinion, he has a real dip - every game - and keeps coming back for more. If blokes are prepared to go the extra mile in preparation, their goals in life often come sooner, rather than later. Daniel Mortimer is too young to be consigned to the scrap heap just yet - at least not while he keeps getting up after being knocked down.

That's right. He wouldn't start Jarryd Hayne in FG. What a mug he turned out to be.

On the upside, he did bring us Corey Pearson, Aaron Cannings, Chris Thorman, Vince Fawcett etc, etc.

;-)

Yep. And he destroyed Clinton Shifkofski by continually swapping him from fullback to wing; and he drove Jamie Lyon away from the club too. Good work, Brian. On the news last night Daniel Mortimer basically said that he played better when it was ad-lib and less structured. So now he`s going to the biggest control freak in the game! Good luck.

Maybe they have dropped but he is good at spotting raw talent.
Just my opinion though, nothing to get hot about. You either agree with me or you don't..and either way it doesn't bother me.
One NRL coach I have spoken to about Daniel told me that learning to play NRL is like learning to drive a car. When you are on P plates, you are nervous watching every possible thing and often get distracted. After you graduate to a full licence everything becomes second nature..Not a bad analogy.

Having a full licence doesn't mean you're a great driver. Some fully licenced drivers are worse drivers than P platers. So I agree, great anaology in regards to Mortimor.

To be fair, the bloke keeping him out the fullback role was Brett Hodgson who turned into quite a handy player. What would you do?

I'm not sure about that, Smithy gave his teams free reign when they had the capacity, skill and confidence to be able to execute. All his teams worked hard before they deserved the right to spread the ball wide or try that trick pass.

Yeah he sure did destroy Choc Schifoscke...:sarcasm: Smithy should have left him on the scrap heap after he tested positive at the Crushers. He was never any good at the Eels - and fancy playing him on the wing...(even with the Queensland team in SOO)...DESTROYED him and Clinton would be devastated....

By your reckoning Jack Gibson would be a control freak also. Jack put too much emphasis on defence. Another CONTROL FREAK...
Coaches who aren't control freaks, as you put it, are walking around the streets of the city with the arse out of their pants.

shifcofske was moved to the wing to accomodate hodgson at fullback - hodgson played great for us there and went on to play for NSW .... i was disappointed shifcofske effectively got bumped, but it was hard to fit em both in hte team

Maybe the Broncos could see Casey's potential..Maybe Daniel will get an opportunity like Scott did..with the Chooks...Time will tell..
Funny thing is that you mentioned brian's eye for spotting talent and how he wants Mortimer and mention the broncos seeing casey's potential but it was Brian who didn't rate Casey and let him go to the broncos.

The current NSW Blues Captain Paul Gallen was also passed over under Brian's watch.

We made the finals sevens seasons out of nine under Smith. WE won the minor premiership twice. He blooded countless players. He made the right call on many players but he got a few calls wrong. Still I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

I wish Mortz well. But I think he's the next Michael Witt. [Which btw was a call that Smith got right.]
