Just on Alan Tongue, he only needs to make an average of about 40 tackles a game from here on in to eclipse Richard Swains season tackling record

he is on 845 at the moment, with 4 games to play, i believe he needs 1005 to take the record...

yep i noticed that. exept, you may not agree, tongue tackles himself to a standstill, but makes aot of tackles that don't need him, as a 3rd defender. he also isn't that effective with his hit ups... ill always take quality over quantity. most under rated player, Moimoi... imo 1 of the form forwards in the game, but will never be mentioned in the with the likes of asotasi and wiki. i also don't think someone like johnson can be classes as under-rated, he played origin, som1 must rate him. i think sutton has also become under-rated. playing for souths, hehas become almost forgoten, but never stops trying.

tongue doesnt make much ground with his hit ups but he is very good from hooker and has made several breaks for us this year, always looks like breaking the line

and as for his tackling, very rarely is he 3rd man in, i got no idea where you pulled that one from, he is always first or second in, generally around the legs

The thing about dallas Johnson is that not only did he play Origin this year he played it like he was a veteran. He still wouldn't make the Aussie side but probably should. You don't have to be completely ignored or unobtrusive to be underrated. Sometimes players can be recognised, like Johnson with Origin selection, but still don't get the recognition they deserve.

BTW, Fa'alogo is definitely underrated. A strange pick in the NZ side at the time but he played well and has gotten better since. Paul Whatuira is another good nomination. He's played Tests and won grand finals but he's never mentioned as one of the top centres in the game. I think he is.

radier_69, if someone makes 50 tackles a game, there is no way on earth that person makes more than 30 of them as the initial defender. i have watched tounge play, he is an average player ability wise with alot of heart. he may have made 850 tackles, but how many 1 on 1 tackles has he made, how many times has he hit a attacking player hard. i don't believe he is under-rated, he tries hard, and he is recongnised for that... but u can't recognise somone for ability they don't have. johnson on the other hand is not good enough for the aussie jersey. Hindmarsh, ODonnel, Simpson, Crocker, will get a look in before him, and for good reason. johnson is a good player, has an amazing defensive technique, and runs hard... just isn't an explosive player, which i think is needed to be considered with the best. But mark my words, i wouldn't complain with him in my team. the what is unlucky, he is contesting in a possition which is probobly the most contested in terms of players ability. i could pick 6 or so players that could easly be considered the best centre in the world, and when you think of players like gidley who has played well of late, and once considered one of the best can even get a look in. when som1 like cross, can even get an origin jersey. when NSW have centres playing on the wing, because the #3 and 4 jersey are so hard to get. when the best winger in the game, struggles to get a jersey on the wing for NSW cos centres are named on the wing. in todays game, we have so many classy centres, the whats just unlucky... one ill agree is under-rated

well its pointless continuing this debate with you as its PAINFULLY clear you havnt seen much if any of Alan Tongue... i can tell, from a bloke who watches him week in and week out, he hits low and hard 90% of his tackles, rarely see him above the waist, which sort of ends your 3rd man in theory as its next to impossible to get around the legs when your 3rd man in... too many bodies around...

There are players who come into tackles as the third or fourth man a lot but Tonguey isn't one of them. Jim Dymock was the worst. He'd some in and pile on top when the tackle was either completed or well under control. We used to laugh about it all the time. He'd probably get pinged for flopping a lot more these days.

Back - Brett Stewart

Forward - Not so much "under-rated" but definately a reasonably new player to 1st grade with truckloads of potential - George Rose.

Now I know they are both Manly players - I would choose Stewart even if I hated Manly. And I chose Rose because I mainly watch Manly games and evaluate each players performances... Im sure I could choose someone else that will upstage him. I just dont concentrate on other teams performances.
