Movies That Didn't Make Any Sense

I'm talking about those movies that make you think "WTF was that all about?"

Those movies that make you think that you've wasted two hours, only to be more and more confused.

I'll start the list with my initial picks.

Shutter Island.

Being John Malkovich.

Picnic At Hanging Rock.

Lion King...the whole animals talking thing really threw me off guard.

Shutter Island made perfect sense to me, but it hinges heavily on key pieces of dialogue.
Haven't seen those others yet.

Donnie Darko has to be up there, the pay-off is not as clever as it thinks it is.
Conan the Barbarian was pretty f*ckng random.
Her, pretty weird but I did enjoy it.
No Country for Old Men
American Beauty
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, although I never finished it

Conan The Barbarian was just a springboard for Arnie's movie career IMHO.

2001: A Space Odyssey.

Yes, yes, I know it's a classic.
And I will concede it is a wonderful piece of art on film. It's absolutely beautiful looking, and a marvel of its time in terms of special effects.
But as a movie it has no story, no characters, no sense.
I can deal with a movie that leaves stuff up to the imagination of the viewer...but this one gives you so little to go on it's not worth it.

Absolutely hilarious too. Highly recommend it.

My two favourites in this category - Battlefield Earth and Hudson Hawk.

It was a long time ago, but I found Donnie Darko cryptic as hell.
I felt there's too much stuff in there just for the sake of being surreal rather than contributing to the plot.

Her and No Country for Old Men I absolutely loved.
Donnie Darko and American Beauty I also really enjoyed.

Oh I really enjoyed some of those too, but all the same I did walk out thinking "whoa that was a bit odd".

Didn't like Donnie Darko though.

Shutter Island was trippy, but it all came together in the end. Good movie.

Every time it's on tv I decide to watch it trying to figure out if I missed something and then after it ends I'm left dissatisfied again:lol:

Million Dollar Baby left me traumatized and depressed afterward.
