many millions of $$ later into the already full coffers of the NRL...
you forgot that dummy

That was always the outcome dummy, the moment NSW govt moved the goal posts. It was always going to tender, A NSW was always going to win.

Could of just got on with it weeks ago

Labor is not campaigning to take away the flood money to pay for what VLandys wants. Neither side will run on raising taxes to do both the flood money AND the stadium money at the next election. He's not going to get the stadiums he wants and Sydney will always win the bidding if we move to some auction system.

But he got a lot of cameras pointed at him for weeks which he loves. He is such a tone deaf bloke. When circumstances change, opinions should change. To expect the same handshake deal after the floods was absurd. The smarter play would have had him say "yep, we know people's homes and livelihoods are a priority before footy. We support the government's change of plans prioritising the community because we are a game that is for the community." That would have built good will, that is how you do politics. Then after the flood rebuild is done the state would have been much more amendable to giving him the stadiums he wants.

crap
no it wasn't , it took resolve from the NRL & strong leadership

The nsw govt probably weren't going to pay anything at all a few weeks ago , their utter arrogance to the fore thinking the NRL would have to play it in Sydney this late in proceedings ...
PVL's tactical brilliance got an offer from NSW about a week after the bun fight started , then telling them a week after that , it wasn't good enough & we're off to QLD .. then getting more at the 12th hr
genius ..

but it needed all of the time it took
end of

again
there will always be floods , natural disasters , strikes .. whatever
this situation is not new , it was a pathetic excuse used by a pathetic govt

Vlandys job is what is best for Rugby League & when deals are broken , written or otherwise
then its time to act

this is what PVL did

You should get your tongue out of PVL ass for long enough to see, how wrong you are here.

PVL and the NRL should of put a date on NSW to commit to the stadiums.

When that date passed open up an auction period of say a week

The outcome would of been the same just wouldn't of been the clusterf**k that PVL made it

Vlandy's himself said that the better stadium rental deal and cut of the food and drinks sales they get at suncorp compared to Accor makes a big difference. I doubt there'd be much difference in corporate sales so its really ticket sales of 30k difference. NSW offered $2mill less than Qlnd and Vlandys recking the value is on par with each other so that tells you roughly what it all works out at. Basically if someone bids more than $10mill and gives a good stadium deal its in the NRLs best commercial interests to move it. Especially if the stadium holds more than 52k.

Yes just hand wave away the massive corporate dollar and general wealth difference between Sydney and the other states…

NSW forever have the upper hand in these deals and will just offer a matching deal as the next best and win every year.

and not a single new stadium will be built

This is great. Sydney has too many games anyway. Take the big one away. Make them earn it.

Well played NRL , congrats to all involved, certainly PVL

the increased deal from NSW of 8 million
plus the extra 30K seats to sell

plus the deal only good for a year so the GF still a bargaining tool meaning
the stadiums deal is still on the table
was a master stroke

the code looks strong & not easily bullied by slime bag deal welching politicians

Lol at extra seats.

It's at the same stadium it was always scheduled at and not one single person with any sense thought it would be elsewhere depsite PVL's tantrum. It will be there again next year and the year after.

People on here, predicted this outcome weeks ago, Yet it was dragged out like a circus
It wasn’t as simple as that

Brisbane was favourites a day ago until the nsw govt upped their bid to 8 million

the arlc benefits by getting the bigger capacity ground and also gets 8 million on top of it

You know the nsw govt offered a 20 yr deal to keep the grand final in Sydney for a fee of 8 million pa and vlandys said no

You think once the new govt comes in anyone is going to care about 300 million spent over 5 years lmao

only if the NRL gets its way , or it will go as promised
well done PVL
we have boxed the pollies into a corner

the fact that sleazy used car salesmen masquerading as the premier came slithering back at the last minute with more $$ shows was a major win

winning here

Well it’s a great result for the finances of the game

a Sydney grand final apparently makes a profit of around 15 million for the game

throw in the extra 8 million the nsw govt chipped in and it’s happy days

who knows how much more they get out of nsw next year if it’s more cities bidding

This is how dumb peerotet is he’s willing to spend 160 million in cash to keep the nrl grand final

or he can spend 300 million on stadia where they actually get a return on their money via rent, naming rights etc and still retain ownership of the asset

plus the economic benefit from construction work created

it’s just stupid
