If the NRL genuinely just puts it out to tender they’ve likely shot themselves to spite the NSW government.

for half the cost of the stadium project they can own the GF for the next 20 years without breaking a sweat, and given the the other states can only really offer cash, NSW can simply big a buck more and be done with it.

I reckon they’ve basically quashed all suburban stadium funding and probably also shitcanned the Penrith upgrade as you’d imagine the labor government who are going to piss in the next election will see this as easy savings

dont kid yourself, its as much about Govt justifying spending $2bill on a stadium and the kudos of hosting an event as much as the ROI from sport tourism. Origin brought across around 20k, I can see a GF doing same, or even better. Thats only 10k fans from each club.

You don't know who is going to play until the week before, Right now a flight over is $800 or so. Put in a big event and it will be jacked up.

Origin works because you have a pool of 8m fans to come across, You don't get that with a GF

Labor wouldn't of cancelled the 20 year deal but they may not bid in the future

yes the airlines would no doubt rip everyone off, and it is an issue for our clubs fans whenever our teams get to a GF on the east coast, but they still go and sell out the allocations. Qantas is notorious for price gouging in these situations. We sold 39k tickets to a Double header at Optus, selling it out wont be an issue.
But the NRL doesn't care about any of that, just the $'s on offer, nor does the state govt. If WA Govt offered the right deal it will be here if they legit put it out to tender.

PVL can say what he wants but the clubs will pressure them to keep it in Sydney or Brisbane.

i think they are much more likely to big $10-20m per year on the GF instead of spending $500m on a new stadium in penrith though.

especially given realistically NSW can make more money from the GF given the capacity of Accor and the superior corporate dollars here. So they are effectively entering with a multi million dollar bidding advantage over the other states

Vlandy's himself said that the better stadium rental deal and cut of the food and drinks sales they get at suncorp compared to Accor makes a big difference. I doubt there'd be much difference in corporate sales so its really ticket sales of 30k difference. NSW offered $2mill less than Qlnd and Vlandys recking the value is on par with each other so that tells you roughly what it all works out at. Basically if someone bids more than $10mill and gives a good stadium deal its in the NRLs best commercial interests to move it. Especially if the stadium holds more than 52k.

PVL lives in complete fantasy land.

Superbowl lol

The SB legit has 20+ cities full of NFL fans who want to host. The NRL has 2 plus 3 others who might be attracted to the gimmick at first.

Well played NRL , congrats to all involved, certainly PVL

the increased deal from NSW of 8 million
plus the extra 30K seats to sell

plus the deal only good for a year so the GF still a bargaining tool meaning
the stadiums deal is still on the table
was a master stroke

the code looks strong & not easily bullied by slime bag deal welching politicians

has been totally screwed after making adeal with no agreement in place and has no stadium outcomes to show under his watch, made the game look a farce by not knowing where the GF is until the 11th hour, threatened and threatened that the Gf would move, and guess what, it hasnt as he backed down despite another option he could have taken to show he meant business, again. Next year back to square one again with the will it, wont it. His presser was another cringe show. But yeh well done Pete lol

has stood up for the game he chairs , unlike his bum licking predecessors
his no nonsense approach was just what was required
he has shown parrotturd & the opposition leader that if the stadiums issue is not resolved then we will be straight back here again next year

again
congrats PVL

and anyway
it wouldn't have mattered what he did , your ludicrous anti PVL bias is borderline hilarious

he could have signed a deal for 40 million this year & you would have found fault with it
you're the forum joke you are that transparent

his 'bum licking' predecessors delivered a redeveloped SFS and commbank stadium and $200mill in CofE funding. So far he has delivered nothing but embarrassment for the game. If we lose Penrith now then he has to go.

Take off your vlandys love glasses and see it for what it is, a failure of epic proportions. But hey he had a dig at AFL in the presser so no doubt you love him, cringe.

PVL has shown hes not to be trifled with..

he has set our code up for decades
banking profits in tough times
using our GF as leverage to achieve what our code was promised & needs

he is indeed the saviour of the code
all hail lord peter

{quote]“I think it has got to the situation now that out of every negative is a positive, and the positive here is that we have four clubs in Queensland [the Broncos, Cowboys, Dolphins and Titans].

"If you pro-rata it, every one in four years should go to Queensland, by rights."[/quote]

So, does that mean that Melbourne and NZ are entitled every 16 years?
