Thats a discussion about the 2023 GF & if Sydney gets it ... Labor would want to be a bit more open minded about stadium funding then it is currently

The ARLC is the governing body of the game. It is their decision where to hold the Grand FInal.

If NSW is not available for any reason, then they can choose to go somewhere else. This is something they could have done some time ago. They have chosen to delay the decision repeatedly (and apparently for one more day, too).

You can spend time assigning blame to the government because of whatever loyalty you appear to have to the Chairman, but most fans I'm observing commenting on this are sick of the BS and want a venue announced. They don't care whether it's Perrottet or V'landys' fault.

Yep most comments, I have seen is slamming the NRL for it.

Hard to blame anyone really, nsw govt has said they want to delay funding, again, nrl now needs to call their bluff. Only criticism is nrl should have had a deadline for nsw govt 2 months ago and then acted when that deadline passes. They’ve been issuing this threat since 2017! should have just announced they were playing it in Sydney this year then putting it out to tender from ‘23 onwards. Don’t understand why that would be so hard and would give new govt if they get in chance to do something about it, or not. Nrl could have the negotiated to get one of the stadiums done immediately, manly probably most in need.

The NRL gave the NSW govt every opportunity to fix this for as you say many years now , but the govt continued to listen to everyone else about , everything else .. from what stadium to build where to renege on written agreements & good faith handshakes not build them at all.
Why would conceding ... again .. & playing the GF in Sydney this year put the NRL in any better a position to get anything done moving forward. Obviously the commission believes it wouldn't & need to send the strongest possibly statement to the NSW govt who ever it is , that if you want the GF in Sydney , then honour your agreements with them.

The only move left for the nrl is to move the gf to qld and wait for NSW to come crawling back with a promise for stadium funding down the track.
The unfortunate thing is both sides of government seem to think it’s popular to deny the funding, so their focus group sentiment, or whatever the fugg they rely on to make these decisions, will need to shift before they change.
I expect to see the gf in qld for a few years at least.

What will be interesting is if it moves will people in NSW care? Ultimately politicians make decisions to keep their jobs, unless there is massive public outcry then it may gone forever from Sydney and that wouldn't be good for the game given how lackluster the sport is already in the city.

I think the NRL will cop it from the clubs more than the general public will care, Brisbane has less seats which leads to a balancing act between General public and corporates

It will be interesting as for the first time its possible that the two clubs will have more members than seats available. I guess if clubs give full members ticket priority then it would be a driver for sales, but even then there may not be enough seats to even cover all full members at Suncorp?

About 20k in Sydney is unavailable to the General Public, They hold back 5k of tickets for the teams who make its fans. That leaves 25k of tickets left.

That also would lead to not getting the Stadium funding, Given NSW offered $8m a year to host the game and could lead to future governments upgrading the grounds. So it is hard to sell to the clubs that it was the best option moving forward

You might see the odd article in the paper about Jimmy from Wagga missing out on their yearly trip to the grand final but otherwise I doubt very many care (except for the supporters of the clubs involved).
