Won a lot of games for us. We all loved him back then, So if he wasn't a matchwinner, why did the Sharks pay so much?
It was the in thing at the time to throw big money at name players without much thought. See J. Dugan and S. Johnson for example.

because we were f**king stupid that's why.
I recall one game against Canberra I think with a 20 minute blitz for penrith.
too much hype that never eventuated.
the charade is over.
won't be a memorable career.

I don't disagree. But by that logic we could also ask, if he was such a much-loved matchwinner then why were the Panthers so enthusiastic to swap him for J.Maloney? Yes, we all know that there must be all kinds of reasons, but that does show that there's more to this than just matchwinning performances.

He had a blue with Hook, who was on his case about his poor attitude in a number of areas. Hook still being in the good books at Penrith and getting an extension, Moylan wanted out. It made sense for all involved.

Don't forget Maloney, Moylan, Griffin and Flanagan were all managed by the same agency back then.

A factor why the Sharks paid what they paid for MM was because for the swap to happen and for the vultures to remain happy the deal depended on MM getting BBQs money. BBQ or Flanno had to go, that relationship was untenable and the Sharks needed a near to near replacement

MOYLAN SET TO STAY

Sharks five-eighth Matt Moylan looks set to re-sign in the coming weeks after impressing first-year coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

Moylan signed a long-term deal when he joined from the Panthers in 2018 but but his most-recent contract was for just 12 months.

“Interesting with Moylan, they only signed him for one year because they weren’t convinced in the off-season that his head was right, that he was putting in to justify his salary,” Rothfield said.
But Fitzy said, and I spoke to him this afternoon, they’re ready to talk again.

“He’s shown them enough in six weeks that Fitzy wants to sit down and talk next year.”

Paul Kent added: “The secret to some players is to sign them to a one-year deal.”

This is going to upset some in here.

Probably only likely to be for another 12 months.

He's played well enough to earn it.

Leaves him and Trindall both off contract at the end of next year.

Yep. And if the war chest is built up with non retentions at the end of this year we'll have Herman cash

So the word is Moyza wants a two year deal and may be off to the Broncs or the fish if we're not prepared to offer him one.

Looking at his time with us so far he's been up and down and in and out of the side. The smart decision was made last year signing him to a reduced deal and for 1 year only. He's managed to string 8 games together where he's been good but not great.

I trust Fitz to make the right call but I don't think I'd be giving him any more than a 1 year deal. Trindall and Hynes can work and after the Broncos debacle I have my doubts about Nicho's ability as an organiser.

We still have Trindall who can only get better and Miller who is untested but doing all the right things in NSWCup.

Thoughts?
