Geez the ball rolls slowly.

Anyone know when Mullen is getting his appeal hearing?

Not that his money seems to be going to be put to good use this season. We have available cap space now but don't seem to be looking for any more players.

His money could be used for forward payments for future years for players rather than paying a drug cheat...

No doubt, but as I said, we have available cap money now, but aren't seemingly heading out to buy!

A lot could be happening behind the scenes though, and it would be great to have mullo's money to put to good use.

Mullos money is not going to be used this year. Not even close

The club is obviously looking after him and fair enough too. The guy has given years of service to the Knights and has paid the price with his body, a big reason why he turned to PEDs in the first place

Id expect him to be off the books in 2018 though

Agreed, Caped. No-one wants the money anyway, and we already had money for this year if someone became available aside from Mullos coin. I'm glad we're looking after him, at the end of the day he made a mistake in what appears to be desperate circumstances. People have always just loved sinking a boot into him.

The guy has been well looked after his whole career with the Knights. He doesn't deserve a bonus this year. He was selfish and let the whole club down.

If he really cared he would have resigned from the club and stopped being paid. Clearly he only cares about himself.

I was a big fan of his. That has been tarnished.

Mullen looks to set record straight

Jarrod Mullen has no intention of resuming his playing career following his positive drugs test.

There has been a lot of misinformation circulated about Mullen's intentions, namely that he is seeking to launch an appeal with a view to returning to the field. The fact is he isn't contesting the positive result, but is seeking to explain the extenuating circumstances that led to it when the matter goes before the NRL's anti-doping tribunal. The matter was initially scheduled to be heard last week but was adjourned.

The former Newcastle playmaker is facing an automatic four-year ban after testing positive to the banned steroid Drostanolone on November 29 last year, but is seeking a reduced sanction with a view to remaining involved in football in an off-field capacity. The 29-year-old is resigned to never playing again due to the chronic injuries that have plagued his career.

Newcastle will continue to pay Mullen until the matter is heard, although suggestions the former NSW playmaker is intentionally dragging out the matter are off the mark. His legal representatives have tried to expedite the process to give all parties finality, a move that would give the Knights clarity over their salary cap situation. However, negotiations with the club about a severance payout have broken down.

Mullen's biggest concern is his reputation and he is looking forward to telling his story at the appropriate time.

Again, I don't have a problem with it. It is what it is, and there's a process to go through. His well being as a person comes first. He's entitled to look after himself and not just throw himself under a bus for our convenience. I doubt he desperately need the few extra months pay, it's likely far more about the length of the ban for him as the article says.

I reckon he could make a motza if he sells his story rights to Marvel or DC...kids everywhere will get to read about the marvelous tales of the newest superhero...The Mental Midget!

Reading between the lines seems he will try to pin it on the club somehow.

He can save his reputation - which he trashed by being a drug cheat - in his own time, and without the Knights losing $15K a week from the salary cap in doing so.

Why the f**k aren't the management of the club sacking him right now if he isn't debating his guilt?

Not sure why you would be entitled to a severance package after testing positive to PEDs especially after getting paid $15k a week for a few months whilst provisionally suspended.

I also don't understand why you still get paid while you are only appealing the severity of the suspension?

Probably the same reason we felt a need to pay out some of Boyd's contract when he left us to go back home to the Broncos. Boggles the mind how any further payment to Mullen can be justified.

Nah, we just need an actual business CEO, not an old boy.

Honestly, how can he be owed any severance at all?
