Mullen isn't a hack, but he isn't Joey Johns either. Even though everyone in Newcastle and hence the media built him up to be.

Trick kicks and a bit of flash don't make a pivot or half.

He's mentally fragile, but has a heap of pressure on him and a forward pack that doesn't aim up. If he had space, he'd definitely improve, but I fear its too late for him.

He lacks the mental toughness to be the leader you need and the vision to make big plays.

He's done.

I was thinking about this earlier. The team is mentally fragile, but I am starting to think Mullen is more mentally stubborn.

Instead of putting his hand up and saying "this is too much, I need some help" he becomes a "yes" man.

This is a brilliant thing as a person, but as a footballer and playmaker, you need to know when to look for help.

Someone mentioned Foran and DCE, well Lyon and Stewart take a hold of alot of their playmaking, leaving some of the work for the young halves. In this team no one takes a load off Mullo, and he is too stubborn to demand it from anyone else.

Glenn Stewart is an extra 5/8th for them in the backrow, we got backrowers who have no vision or ball skills what so ever.

A Mullen/Pearce combination would be the most dominant halves combination in the nrl. Throughout their junior years they struck up a good combination in the junior rep teams. Their games would compliment eachother perfectly. This should be a priority in my opinion.

Yes forwards lay a foundation for the halves to work off, but if your halves are not taking any pressure off the forwards with kicks into space, repeat sets etc then this nullifies a lot of go forward. A halfbacks kicking game is just as important at gaining the upper hand through field position as a firing forward pack. At the moment and for the last half a decade, our only kicking meter eater has been Mullen, makes it quite easy to pick off.

Mullen is the third highest paid playmaker in our club behind Gidley and Boyd. why is the onus on him to create everything? and steer the team? and do EVERYTHING else?

Gidley is being paid to be our number 1 playmaker when he is on the field. which he hasn't been consistently for us in quite a while.

He's on more than Snowden as well? Interesting ;-)

Go all in for Pearce. Can't help but think we will. Within reason though. I'd remind Pearce he has to date, a 13% win record at origin level when they pull the rep card to inflate his value. Hasn't looked close to dominant in 7 games. He may yet but he is a superb club half regardless.

Glad your not on charge of negotiations! Fair dinkum any player would tell you to rightly go f**k yourself of you did that.

Would they? By presenting fact to his manager i don't think u r doing anything but getting a point across to stop them using rep records as an inflated negotiating boasting tool. Many players get a rep jumper and their price skyrockets out of proportion to their overall contribution. Not all of course. He is lucky to be there this year over Wallace. I'd love to have him here but not at a cap busting price. I am sick of us overpaying players who get in their comfort zone and then slack off.

I think you tried to be too clever, because I don't get the point you're trying to make. Snowy is on the same ballpark money as Mullen... possibly a bit more even. I don't see what relevance this has to the discussion about playmakers, though. Completely different discussion.

Its a reasonably long bow, but I made the connection: Slothfield.

He claims Kade is the most overpaid dud in the League. He has no tries, next to no try assist, and few line breaks, therefore he is a dud.

What he doesnt realise is that Kade's numbers are twice that of any prop we have had since Parsons and Perry. Whilst he may be "overpaid" in context to other props, he is providing great value and return for us in regards to what we have been getting in the past.

You know what's sad... In recent memory our best prop has been Perry... What is that saying about our club? Perry had his best season in 03ish which is 9 years ago... For a decade have we not produced a single good prop bar Snowden? We live in dark times friends..
