So end this Mullen ' cant kick ' bullsh*t , because its a crock of crap from fans who clearly can't spot the quality of his work amongst what they want to see.
hahaha, you're such a classic sometimes. like your opinion on the subject ends the discussion. nice one.

I think Thurston has an outstanding kicking game, even better than Kimmorley's if you ask me.

Mullen's mental game isn't up to stratch but maybe its not his fault. Roger's ain't directing the team around that means Mullen will be but that ain't his forte right Roopy? That is another reason why we need Dureau (a consistant NRL standard Dureau we have seen in some matches) to compliment Mullen. I think having a halfback/5-8th partnership in the mold of Dureau/Mullen who compliment each other is as good as Joey+2nd rower.

If it doesn't it should! ;-)

Mullen has been down on form, and his kicking game has been just as inconsistent. It goes hand in hand.

He has the ability to make the big plays whether it be running, passing or kicking and HAS SHOWN IT IN THE PAST at first grade level.

Which is more that can be said about any other half option at our club.

You guys are too harsh on him. Question his form , not his ability or skill.

While ever Peter Sterling creams his pants over his talent ( and kicking ) , that's enough to convince me. He knows more than me about what it takes to be a top class half, or anyone else here for that matter.

Like I said, we can criticise his form, but not question his skill set or ability.

Mullen needs to be partnered with someone not named ben rogers in the halves. Mullen is best when running the ball and spreading it as a 2nd receiver. I think he's abit like Ben Roberts who was an utterly crap halfback but this year with Kimmorley there he's been on fire

yeh i agree with aqua duck, he has a good long kicking game, can run the ball well, sometimes struggles with short ranged kicks, which is why he should be five eighth, and we need a halfback which has a great kicking game all round, we should get tim smith!

I think Mullens kicking game gets more criticism than it deserves.

Sure it can be inconsistent at times, but a few of you guys look at poor kicks too much, and don't focus on the quality work he does off the boot.

Scott Prince and JT don't get their kicking right every single time, and they're the seen as the best halfbacks the game has at the moment.

Kimmorley is probably the best at execution, but it helps that he has a decade of experience on Mullen.

Jarrod Mullens kicking game will be fine.

I think he is unfairly criticised about it, because I've seen him win us games with deft touch off the boot. ( A try the other night off his boot was all skill )

I don't put his poor kicking down to not having the ABILITY to kick well, but just a consequence of what has been some indifferent form in general.

He has been hot and cold for months form wise, and his kicking game reflects it.

When he is on song, his kicking game is fine, and thats all that matters really.

So end this Mullen ' cant kick ' bullsh*t , because its a crock of crap from fans who clearly can't spot the quality of his work amongst what they want to see.

Christ you've gone easy on him. This bloke IS our kicker and IS a major disappointment. Just how many times this season has Mullen's kicking game been on - for the entire game. Been good enough to dominate field position because of the quality of the kicks. Been able to consistently keep pressure on the opposition by rolling it in for repeat sets when needed. His kicking game is far from polished and that is plain for any supporter who watches week to week to see. No one expects every kick to be perfect, but to dominate field position the majority of the kicking must be quality.

Is that the same Peter Sterling who creams his pants over Brian Smith's talent as a coach???

His strengths in the juniors were the same as his strengths now - a very dangerous running game, decent vision, and a good passing game.
When he first hit firstgrade he was only a kid and didn't have the size to take on defenders as he did in the juniors, so he learnt to use his passing game more, but he is back to doing what he did in the juniors.
He has been working on that kicking game for about 5 years now, and i'd say what you see is what you get - he isn't going to develop the touch of Joey overnight now - same as Gidley - decent but not brilliant kicker.

Good point Roopy. So basically our tactical kicking game has reached a peak unless we develop or buy a decent halfback yes.

I don't know enough about Rogers to comment on his potential, but Dureau has a great kicking game.
We haven't seen it in firstgrade because of many factors - Smith didn't give him much freedom - he has never had time to get up to firstgrade speed - he has played injured a lot etc etc.
Right up to NSW cup level he has been a quality kicker in general play - and if he ever gets a decent run of firstgrade time we will see it in firstgrade too.
He is a better tactical kicker than Walsh - always has been - but Walsh has had the best part of this season to get up to firstgrade speed, so he will be the 'form' kicker right now.

George Ndaira also has an amazing short kicking game. In the World Cup qualifying games last year he was the player of the series playing halfback for Lebanon, and the pommy commentators were raving over his kicking game, saying it was better than any in the ESL, especially when he destroyed two halves for Wales that had both been number 7 for GB.

Yeah Georgie should move clubs. He'd go sweet up in the UK I reckon...

Duearu vs Walsh is going to be sweet!

What's been keeping him out of first grade then? Are there any other aspects to his game?

DeGois is keeping him out of firsts.

With Rogers, Mullen, and Scott fit, Hilder considered a geniune utility and Karawana able to play back row, he is also finding it hard to crack the bench.

I think George had a bit of bad luck in that he filled in in the halves during a game when someone got injured and looked like a fish out of water, but he probably hadn't had any time training with the team as a half, and i think he really could step up if given a few weeks of running the plays at training - but of course we won't see that happen at this time of year.

Champion footballers are great at judging footballers, not coaches.

Reference point - Johns/Hagan.

You're definitely worth a laugh Karma. So are most of Johns' comments on a lot of rugby league topics. His commentary for Nine is even funnier.
