Slayer are pretty good where that you can understand the words with a real heavy metal sound!!

I still think Black Sabbath are the masters & originator's of this sound!!

I should listen to this Opeth??......i've heard some good things about them!!

Download The Drapery Falls. If you like that you will probably like Opeth, if not forget about it.

I haven't got all the Opeth CD's but of the ones I've got Blackwater Park is probably the place to start. It has the greatest diversity in the songs.
Track one sounds like a heavier version of Pantera and ends with a 2 minute piano solo.
The acoustic song - Harvest does not sound out of place or compromising.
The Drapery Falls is hauntingly beautiful, combining the heavier parts and mellow parts brilliantly.

The Deliverance CD is extremely heavy with only one mellow song - a two minute acoustic instrumental.

Damnation was recorded at the same time as deliverence and is its companion CD with every song on it being mellow. It couldn't even be classified as being metal yet it keeps the Opeth sound.

Just downloaded it....i reckon it's more instrumental then anything which isn't a bad thing...good actually as im really in to instrumentals!!

Not a bad song at all......good riff.....great sound...i give it the thumbs up!!

There not as heavy as i was expecting you can tell there more the new age type of medal (bring back mono  ) but they remind abit in some parts of ......is it Lincon Park??.....

Some of Opeths material is very heavy, some very mellow, some of it is somewhere in the middle. I'm going to eventually get their entire collection which is currently only 6 cd's so I'm half way there. 8)

I haven't heard anything from Linkin Park. I always thought they were some kind of hybrid "Rap Metal" group? Rap Metal isn't something I'm into except the little bit that Anthrax did. Except when Antrax did it they broke new ground.

Anyway it's always good to try out something new :)

Run to the hills should be the parra supporters theme song.

Vomited Anal Tract should be Canterbury's. It's a song by Carcass.

OMG, ur a Carcass fan?

Necroticism is an obsolute KILLER album! Their early stuff was bloody awesome, but Heartworks I thought was pretty crap.

And how about Coproreal Jigsaw Quandary! Mad double kick to start off!

I quite like Heartowrk :? I must agree that Corporeal Jigsaw Quandry has one of the best intros ever.

Kataklysm, however, is the best death metal band to ever plug in a Gibson. The Orb Of Uncreation is insane, and Sylvain Houde is king of the cookie monster vokillists

I was always more into black metal though. Unfortunately these days, most BM is complete sellout bollocks, so I've been getting back into the eath metal. One thing in its favour, you definitely know what you're going to get when you spin a DM CD.

I like Opeth, but wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. Their concert kicked much ass though, it was nigh-on perfect. Apparently they're coming back in December, I'll be there for sure.

And back to the original question, I have no idea! I know that Iron Maiden are legends, but cheesy power metal just doesn't do it for me :)

I thought you might say that ;) Power metal is a boat that passed me in the night a long time ago, I never got into it. Great musicianship, yes, but spare me the falsetto vokills and tough-guy Manowar image, thank you very much! If I'm in the mood for cheese, it'll be cheesy BM or 80's glam.

u like Black Metal? Guess you're a Cradle of Merchandise......um....i mean Cradle of Filth fan then, lol

Seriously, shit like Emperor and Burzum is great. What's that Burzum song that takes up the whole side of a vynil?

And yes, Symphonies is a wicked album.

You ever heard of Sydney bands Grenade and Stone Wings?

Cradle Of Filth? I laugh at thee! First 3 albums only. I lost interest big time after that. Their gig at Selina's in 1997 (98?) was great though. Mind you, that was before they went down the toilet.

Some of my faves include Limbonic Art (best band in the universe), old Emperor, old Mayhem, old Satyricon, Nokturnal Mortum, Beherit (kvlt), Marduk, Immortal, old Impaled Nazarene, blah blah blah you get the idea.

From Oz I like Nazxul, Astriaal, Lord Kaos. Plus some DM stuff like Psychrist and Portal. Oz is in seriously short supply of BM bands.

Grenade? Yeah, hehe. Seen them live countless times. Stone Wings used to be Elysium, correct? Seen them twice. Not bad at all.
