you didn't think it through too well, why would you have two games on at the same time?

If you are talking about fox on saturday, it has always been like that, where you have the option of what game you want to watch

The definition of agreement... means that it's AGREED upon by all parties involved. A simple suggestion in this regard is pointless.

One thing is certain - The NRL NEED to have more free to air coverage .... the current Saturday Night coverage for instance is simply an absolute farce . No free to air games at all either live or delayed , limited to no radio .And that's in it's heartland , the coverage in other states/regions is blackout . Just crazy . Monday Night football is no better and yet would rate it's tits off were on Ch 9 live 7.30 pm .

Pauly this is buggered on the first night.

If you have both games at the same time, you effectively split the league-watching audience in 2 and reduce market capitalisation for both 9 or fox over half the length of time.

was talking about Friday night with a game on Fox and a game on Nine at the same time, Saturday night with a game on Fox and Seven at the same time, and Sunday with a game on Nine and a game on Fox at the same time.

Are the TV companies going to want to pay for half the audience? Of course not.

Having two live games on the same time on two different channels is beyond stupidity. To think some thought Gallop had no idea.

7:30pm - Fox - live
7:30pm - Seven - live

I absolutely hate the 2 Friday Night games, put an extra game on Sunday. Move Monday Night Football to Sunday Night 6pm.

That has more credibility than the initial post.

I can't see Fridays changing. Nine gets massive ratings having a pro-NSW game on in NSW and a pro-QLD game on in QLD.

I would like to see one of the 7:30pm Sat night games moved to 2-3pm Saturday.

We need more day time football, it produces a more enjoyable style of a game and families with their children are more likely to go to the game at this time so it's also better for the growth of the game too.

Foxsports would also get better ratings. It's almost the equivalent of having an extra game on because they wouldn't have to split the 7:30pm audience.

We want an agreement that is going to work for the clubs/crowds/fans.

I understand that all games cannot be played at 3pm on Sunday but it will be getting that balance. Clubs/players and fans hate Monday night footy but it rates well.

Lets hope the NRL move to a fixed schedule and none of this not knowing to 5 weeks out to when your team are playing.

Would you drop the second friday night game for the Monday game? Or is the Friday night second game used in Ch9 favour as they can have the QLD game shown in QLD first and NSW game second and visaversa for NSW.

Definitely alot to debate.

I reckon...

Friday
7:30pm - FTA - live
9:30pm - FTA - delayed

Saturday
5:30pm - Fox - live
7:30pm - Fox - live*
7:30pm - Fox - live*

Sunday
2pm - FTA - live
4pm - FTA - live
7pm - OneHD - live

* viewers choice
FTA - Seven and Nine - 1 to have Friday and the other Sunday
No Monday game as Monday night games suck.

Also let ABC, SBS, OneHD etc. bid for FTA rights in Vic, SA and WA. To make sure the games are shown at a decent hour, or let Fox show them in these states.

Why do people want 9, 7 and 10 all sharing the rights on FTA? How much money do you think someone like 10 will invest in coverage if they are only getting a Monday night game?

I reckon some of these proposed schedules bend over backwards way too much for the networks, and would completely screw up attendance growth. Four live games on FTA? Why would anyone go, especially to night games?

There has to be a balance between maximising TV revenue and maximising attendance and membership revenue. An average suburban family has to weigh up the cost of Foxtel + Sports Pack for six months vs a family club membership. The NRL has to make memberships more attractive, if not through a simple cost basis then at least competitive when you take into account the added entertainment of attending vs watching on TV. If seven of eight games are shown live against the gate on HD, attendances would plummet as families choose to get their league fix exclusively on the 46" LCD with 5.1 surround sound.

Delayed games work for the TV networks because they can fit more ads in, and they actually also work for the league because it encourages more attendance. This insistence on just about every game being live is wrong-headed. If you truly care about the NRL maximising profit and making a better product, you'd be agitating for more delayed games on FTA and less live on Foxtel.
