Just heard on local radio that the club will name the new sponsor next Monday if all goes well this week.

THE Newcastle Knights hope to unveil a new naming-rights sponsor next week.

If negotiations go to plan in the next few days, the announcement of a financial white knight will coincide with Premier Bob Carr's visit next Monday to officially open the $30 million eastern grandstand at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Fighting for credibility on and off the field, the Knights are desperate for some positive news after a record 12 straight losses, the resignation of football manager Mark Sargent last Tuesday after a power struggle with chief executive Ken Conway, and increased speculation about the club's financial viability.

Agree Nuffy, I would much prefer to wait till it was a done deal before the press get hold of it.

I just wonder how much it is worth to us. Let's face it: if it's taken them this long to secure a major sponsor, how is it that we've secured one now.

The off-field dramas will have reduced the value-for-money of signing up with the Knights, let alone the fact we haven't won a game for half a season or more.

Surely you can't tell me that they didn't drop their price? They must have -- or else this mysterious white knight business has rocks in its head.

Oswin they pointed out its alleged to be worth $600,000 a season for two years.

I hope the two years are 2005 and 2006 - so we can get $700,000 plus from 2007.

Yeah its weired. Tyler said last week they he would be disappointed if they couldnt announce a Sponsor by the weekend. A week later its now In another week. I won't hold my breath.

There's all this talk about player payments to be made August1 and Novemebr 1st. The AUGUST payments have NEVER caused any problem/s. Its only the Novemebr one thats a problem - bacause by 30th June they hqave received ALL Corporate boxes revenue, all captains club revenues, all season ticket revenues and all $5M of sponsors revenues. The loans have always been taken out late September to mid October each year.

The fact that THIS season the crowds have been exceptionally good AND the new stand where MANY seats are $31 and $35 and so many more corporate boxes then surely their game day incomes would be exceptionally higher than previous years. Maybe our financial situation is worse than Tyler doesnt admit? Maybe Conway is still keeping him in the dark.

TLP - it is almost certainly why they moved the membership renewal to September/October - so they would have cash in November to meet player payments.

I'll believe it when I see Andrew Johns or Danny Buderus walk out in front of the media in a sponsored jersey. Until then, no sale I'm afraid. I've been burned by the lying scumbags in our management too many times before.

all i can say is, i wont hold my breath... how many times over the last couple of months has it been said that "well have some positive news in 2 weeks.. just yesterday I was talking to so and so and we had a positive discussion blah blah blah" When they run out on the field in sponsored jerseys, then ill believe it

Yeah good call Alex - I didnt think about that one. I thought it was to give them an extra 4 months to make sure they didnt send 2 badges to some members and no envelopes to otherr members. LOL

But I guess 5,000 by $35 all helps thats $175,000 pure spending money,. That would almost pay for Ken Conways annual salary.

If the sponsorship is 1.2million for 2005/2006 as over half the season is already gone I would expect 05 would be worth around 350K and 06 at 850K. Surley they would not accept 600K a season for a major sponsorship no matter how desperate they were. Once you start devalueing your brand like that they will never get back to acceptable yearly sponsorship figures.

Hey BoringRat - Who said anything about devaluing our Brand? We didnt get $600k a season from Qantaslink and I am sure we would be happy to take $600K a season.

How about you just worry about your Dragons Team, your Hero Mark Gasnier and George Best

Antonius I hope all goes well with the new sponsor, you guys deserve a break.

If you then align yourselves to a leagues club (the big one up there Wests???), you'll be back on the road to success.

Good luck!

As everyone has pretty much said I'll believe it when I see it.
This promise has been given out too many times and it's getting like the boy who cryed wolf.

How about you chill out The Little Wanker. I am as entitled as any person on the boards to make a contribution and I bloody well will. I am baffled how you could possibly take offence to my post anyway. I was pointing out the bleeding obvious that the sponsorship for this year would be less due to half the year being over, unless you want to argue about that  . Get over yourself. I am employed and tertiary qualified in Marketing and Sales, I know what I am talking about and I put it to you that you have absoluetly no idea sunshine.

No other team in the competition would accept 600k a season and good luck to the Knights asking for an increase for that after 1 season. Souths will be wearing Cinderella Man on their jerseys for 8 matches in July/August for 250K and you think that 26 matches is worth 600K. 1 million a year is what every club aims for and I am sure that the Knights would be offereing 2006 for around 800K. They are far better offering the rest of 05 at a cut price rate and 06 at full price. That way they still get the money they want and the security they want without dropping the value of their major sponsorship to the point where it will hurt them for years to come. The sponsor doesn't care because they are looking at the full term commitment.

You have NFI.

I'll believe it when I see it. The management has lied enough this year to have damaged their reputation for the rest of their lives as far as I'm concerned

this season would only be worth maybe $300K at best - after all they'll only get 9 or 10 appearances on field and no merchandise sales this year. if we can get $600K a year for future years - then take it.
