I could have scored those f**king tries!
He litterally had to catch, run 3 metres untouched and put the ball down without touching it.

Black, white, grey, orange, yellow, aboriginal, cracker, gentleman, slanty eyed... i dont care how you want to label him. Ultimately he's a good club winger who isnt SOO level, especially not whilst Uate, Hayne, Stewart, Dugan, Morris, Morris, Jennings, Lawrence, etc are vying for 5 SOO spots.

Greg Smith could have scored at least 1 of those tries

He would have forgotten to ground the ball for the other 2

Josh Mansour would have scored 5, probably 2 tackles earlier due to his awsome efforts getting out of his own end. Merritt's window for Origin has passed. The players Raider69 mentioned are well in front of him. Players like Mansour & Mick Gordon are ready to fill to void if the others are injured/lose form.

Don't confuse being a good loyal clubman that has spent a good portion of his career as one of the better players in a rubbish team as being rep quality. I understand why Souths supporters love him, but to most he is just an above average player that stuck with Souths.

I like merrit a lot and in the past def would have picked him ahead of some of the shocking nsw wing picks, but not now, not ahead of hayne or uate. The nsw squad has started to almost appear correct in the last couple of years.

I think he is too small, I think thats a legit concern in origin ESPECIALLY on the wing. Size has become most important on the wing IMO where it's the difference between getting the ball down in the corner or being thrown into the third row of the grandstand.

My grandma would have scored those tries.. Disappointing wing defence from RTS last night.

Easiest hattrick anyone has scored.. MERRITT FOR NSW!! Make him captain! Make him captain coach!! Fire David Smith and make Merritt CEO too!!!

If you don't its racist.

Fetuli Talanoa could've scored those tries

Jason. Motherf**king. Bulgarelli would have had a hattrick on the night.

Greg Smith could have scored at least 1 of those tries

Captain Barbosa could have scored those tries!!!

How many Wingers would have scored the try he got yesterday?

Merritt is a f**king turnstile lol.

For every try he scores he lets in two.

Give this man a sky blue jersey and it'll be 8-in-a-row

At least a turnstile will slow someone down. Jamie Soward got a blue Jersey and he can't even manage that. Most people don't even break stride when running through Soward.

Exactly, along with about 100 other Dragons players.

Who was the last souffs player to rep NSW?

Craig Wing?

lol@souffs!

Surely you jest...

Most of the Wingers in the comp wouldn't have had the wherewithal to take the intercept let alone run 50 metres in heavy traffic and carry three over the line.

lol DKOR please. 1 Warriors player tackled him at the line and the Warriors practically threw the ball to him.

What you fail to mention is the 3 Warriors tries that were scored down his side. His misreads in defence could have easily cost you the game

Merritt is not, nor will he ever be an Origin player and he is no better than half the wingers in the comp.

Another interesting thing to note. Merritt is two tries away from scoring more tries than any player who has ever played the bulk of their football for the Dragons.

Yet another amazing stat.

1 Ken Irvine 212 - Norths / Manly
2 Steve Menzies 180 - Manly
3 Andrew Ettingshausen 165 - Sharks
4 Terry Lamb 164 - Dogs
5 Hazem El Masri 159 - Dogs
6 Matt Sing 159 - Roosters / Cowboys
7 Harold Horder 152 - Souths
8 Bob Fulton 147 - Manly
9 Frank Burge 146 - Glebe / Saints
10 Nathan Merritt 145 - Souths
11 Benny Wearing 144 - Souths
11 Billy Slater 144 - Storm

Every other player in the top eleven has represented their state and or country.

He is a try scoring freak.

I will go as far as to say that his achievement of being the highest tryscorer in a season from a team that won the spoon will never be equalled.

The bird has probably flown for Merritt now but he should have had a Blue Jersey at some point. Especially considering that other players with clear defensive deficiancies have been picked on try scoring ability alone before Merritt.

Uate is a perfect example.
