Hey haven't posted on the NBA forum for a while but just to say I'm heaps excited about Utah getting Al Jefferson. Did any of you guys here him talk at the press conference after being traded? Barring any injury I think he is in for a big season with the Jazz. Real excited to see how the younger pairing of Deron n AJ will work together, both are around 25 years old so have many years ahead of them.

C - Jeffereson
PF - Millsap
SF - AK47
SG - Bell
PG - Deron

Okur, Miles, Ronnie, Fes, Gains, Hayward.

I think the Jazz are looking good after Boozer leaving. Wouldve been happier if they retained WesMatt or Korver but I dont think either were worth the contracts they picked up at other teams.

With Boozer gone Millsap should pick up more minutes at PF with AJ rotating to the C position. And the way AK was playing at the end of the season had him back to his prime. Looking forward to the new NBA season, can't wait for it to start already!!

SAN ANTONIO -- Richard Jefferson was a way overpriced $14 million swingman in San Antonio last season. His new deal will likely give the Spurs more for their money.

The Spurs re-signed Jefferson to a multiyear deal Wednesday, nearly a month after the nine-year veteran opted out of a guaranteed $15.2 million next season. Terms of his new deal weren't disclosed, but Jefferson had been willing to give up the final year of his bloated deal for longer-term security.

"To him, being able to secure his future under the current set of rules that we're living under, eliminates some uncertainty," Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said.
Jefferson did not meet with reporters. His agent, Todd Eley, did not immediately return messages Wednesday.

Although his new salary wasn't immediately known, the Spurs will be paying less for the 30-year-old Jefferson, who was San Antonio's fifth-leading scorer last season while earning a salary second only to Tim Duncan.

Figures aren't mentioned. Wonder how much he'd be on. 8-9 mill per?

Not sure of the validity of it. Interesting nevertheless

When Paul was quoted a few weeks ago as saying he'd be open to a trade if the Hornets aren't committed to building a championship team, it was only a small hint as to the size of the chasm that exists between the franchise and its cornerstone player.

Paul, in fact, has put into motion an aggressive exit strategy that will accelerate in the coming weeks, and his clear intention is to be traded before the start of the 2010-11 season, a person with direct knowledge of his plans told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

"He wants out," said the person, who has been briefed on Paul's strategy but spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly. "He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron's model of teaming up with other great players."

Paul's list of preferred destinations consists of the Knicks, Magic and Lakers, and members of his inner circle already have sent word to the Hornets of his desire to be traded to one of those teams, sources say. If Paul has his way, he's played his last game in a Hornets jersey. "He feels like they haven't put the right pieces together," said the person familiar with the star point guard's plans.

Paul, a three-time All-Star, still has two years before he can become a free agent. But his dissatisfaction with the Hornets' downward spiral, coupled with the coup pulled off by James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami has only accelerated his desire to seek a trade. Sources within the NBA say members of Paul's camp have told them recently, "He's not going to start the season in New Orleans."

Chris Paul on the Knicks..His numbers would be unreal. From a competitive stand-point him at the Magic would be fun. Him and Dwight is a pick-n-roll match made in heaven.

I f**king hate superstar players, getting paid millions of millions of dollars, under the pretence that they will lead their teams deep into the playoffs, demanding trades because their teams "haven't put the right pieces around them" and it's all too f**king hard for them. A la Vince Carter. Kobe even tried that sh*t once.

Also respected KG for never doing that. He just showed up game after game and did everything he could despite being on some horrible Wolves teams.

Chris Paul, if this is true, you've just lost a lot of respect.

How can Paul go to the Lakers?? Would they have to give up Odom or someone with a big contract or can they just shuffle off Powell, Morrison or even Blake haha.

I'd like to see him go to Knicks, he would be a fantasy beast!

Not sure if this was mentioned previously but Wes Matthews is now officially a Blazer as the Jazz didn't match his offer sheet and the 7 days have expired. We all knew it was inevitable

David Khan likens Darko to C-Webb:

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/15/david-kahn-likens-darko-to-chris-webber/

Watched the clip of this the other day and found it hilarious. What would have been even funnier was when C-Webb starting defending himself saying "Darko and I don't really belong in the same sentence" if Khan interrupted him and said "You're right Chris, Darko already has a ring"!

Lol

Arroyo returns to Heat, will vie to be starter

Posted Jul 22 2010 6:10PM
MIAMI (AP) -- Carlos Arroyo has finalized his deal to return to the Miami Heat.

Arroyo appeared in 72 games and made 35 starts at point guard for Miami last season, then decided to return to the club after a brief stint as a free agent. He averaged 6.1 points and 3.1 assists, plus had a stellar 4.17 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The team announced his signing on Thursday, giving Arroyo the chance to vie for a championship alongside Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

"By re-signing Carlos, we feel we have accomplished another big step in adding to this team," Heat president Pat Riley said. "Carlos showed last season that he was one of the most competitive and efficient point guards in the NBA, and we are happy to have him back."
Arroyo, who turns 31 later this month, played college basketball in Miami at Florida International.

He becomes the 13th player under contract with Miami for the 2010-11 season and just the second true point guard, joining fellow returnee Mario Chalmers.

So that's Wade, James, Bosh, Miller, Haslem, Ilgauskas, Arroyo, Chalmers, Jones, Howard, Magloire, Anthony & Pittman under contract? That's 13, so they've got the NBA minimum I think? Wonder if they'll grab anyone else now or wait until mid-season and see if any decent veteran is bought out?

Edit - helps if I read the whole article! Yes, that's 13 players under contract for them.

A little bit on Mills in this Wes Matthew article:

http://www.columbian.com/news/2010/jul/21/wesley-matthews-ready-to-earn-keep-with-blazers/

The Blazers are willing to trade guard Rudy Fernandez, team sources said Wednesday. However, Portland also is open to keeping the third-year player, and will not give him away for "free". The organization feels that the situation with Fernandez has come to a head, and his continued talk about playing elsewhere has created a situation that requires a resolution. If Fernandez chooses to play in Europe next season, the Blazers could place him on the suspended list. The team does not think it will come to that.

Portland is expected to soon make a decision about the futures of guards Patty Mills and Armon Johnson. Both are vying for a spot on the roster following strong Summer League showings. There is a chance both could make the team if Portland creates roster space with a trade
So if they trade Rudy, Mills might grab a roster spot.

Blazers would be nuts to let him go.

I have no doubt in my mind Patty is a quality player and can play in the NBA.

If they don't keep him, I'm sure another team will give him a chance.

I agree. Whilst he's a bit suspect defensively (ok, a lot suspect), he's a marginally better shooter and much better ball-handler than Matthews so would seem to be a better fit floor-spacing wise. They've already got Outlaw to act as the stopper on the wings so if it was down to Matthews or Rudy, I'd probably lean towards Rudy. Considering there's also only 18 months age difference between them as well, I'm surprised the Blazers are paying Matthews so much, and Rudy so little.

Outlaw?

Rudy on the Lakers *drools*. Portland would never do it though. Rate him pretty highly. Potential 6th man of the year in the right situation.

Yeah Batum is quality. Portland supposedly rejected the No.4 pick from the T-Wolves for him so that shows how highly they must rate him.
