If I were the Hornets, and decided on trading Paul, I'd look towards the Knicks. They're so desperate for another superstar that you could probably pillage their roster and give away Okafor's contract.

They don't have anyone of substance but?

Apart from Amare who wouldn't be dealt...who else?

At least you could get some decent players and a draft pick or picks from the Magic.

Gallinari, Randolph, Chandler, Azubuike. All decent players, all at a low price. They're not stars sure, but I can't see how a potential Orlando package could be any better.

Agree with that. If you could get Galinari & Randolph as your building blocks to pair with Collison & Thornton you've got a nice young 4-man core to build around. Grab Eddy Curry and his expiring contract and you can wait til next summer when his comes off the books, or see if a decent trade materialises before the deadline. Players like Azubuike, Chandler & Douglas all are nice one-year renters, with Azubuike probably getting some trade consideration from a contender at the deadline if they're that way inclined.

So they'd get some nice future building pieces, shed themselves of Okafur, get some cap room for next summer and insist on a pick. Plus they'd be sending Paul to a team consisting of Stoudemire and not much else, so they probably wouldn't be much chop next year.

Looking at the teams out there, the Knicks are probably able to offer the most. Not sure how many draft picks they have though, think they've traded a lot away lately.

Another nice one would be Redd's expiring contract, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute & Brandon Jennings. If you're the Bucks, you don't hesitate to give up Jennings if you're getting Paul, and if you're the Hornets you're getting a top young point, top young defender, cap space and picks.

Or Thunder send Harden, Westbrook, Krstic (expiring) & Nick Collison (expiring) plus picks (they've got a boat-load) for Paul & Okafur. Thunder give up two nice young players and risk jeopardising their young chemistry but get back Paul and Okafur (who is an upgrade over both Krstic & Collison). A starting 5 of Paul, Sefolosha, Durant, Green & Okafur surely puts them up there with the best out west. Thunder get back some young talent, expiring contracts plus can choose which of the Thunder's multitude of picks they want.

The Bulls are prepared to sign Tracy McGrady if he proves to be sufficiently healthy in a workout Monday and can convince the team he is willing to accept a bench role, one source familiar with Chicago's thinking said Sunday.

McGrady

"Nothing is done until it's done, but I expect the Bulls to sign McGrady later this week," the source said.

Another unknown is what kind of contract McGrady can command from the Bulls. But McGrady has said money and years are not priorities after earning nearly $23 million last season with Houston and New York.

If he is willing to be just a role player and work in the rotation of Deng and Thomas then its a plus.

I think its a great roster the Bulls are building.

#Cavs have traded Delonte West & Sebastian Telfair to Minny for Ramon Sessions, Ryan Hollins & future second round pick.

Good deal for the Cav's.

Another strange one for Minny.

Another Forward for Minny?

Cav's get rid of the mother fu.... and Telfair and while Telfair had potential they get valuable cap space with getting rid of West.

Sessions is a handy player and Ryan Hollins isn't useless.

Good deal for the Cav's. Making some room in the cap for next season.

Sessions will be a nice back-up behind Williams, good P&R player.

West will surely be bought out by the Wolves and Kahn adds another point guard in Telfair, who is all kinds of terrible. Wouldn't be surprised if he is also bought out.

Nice quote from T-Mac:
"If I was the player I was in a Knicks uniform, I would have no problem coming off the bench," he told the paper. "But I have worked extremely hard and I'm far from that player. It's up to me in training camp to prove I'm a starter."
Good to see his mindset is right! I hope if Chicago signs him he doesn't poison those young kids.

That concerns me as a Chicago fan.

I like T-Mac but if he thinks he is going to come in and start at SF that worries me.

Although if he really is right in the head for the first time ever..then that would be positive

That Sessions trade is confirmed.

If memory serves, David Kahn took over the running over the Wolves last year. So in a little over 12 months, he's:

  • drafted three point guards in 2009, traded one (Lawson) to Denver immediately for a future first round pick, and has so far failed to bring over the 5th overall pick from Spain;
  • drafted three small forwards in 2010;
  • traded Jefferson for future picks to clear space in a crowded front-court in 2010;
  • trading for Beasley, despite it still being a crowded front-court in 2010;
  • re-signed Darko for a guaranteed $20m in 2010;
  • signed Sessions and Hollins to free agent contracts in 2009;
  • signed Ridnour as a free agent in 2010;
  • traded his two free agent signings from 2009 for cap relief in 2010.
That's off the top of my head. They still have no true shooting guard OR players with consistent 3-point range. There's still a logjam at point guard and in the front-court. They're trying to rebuild but have overpaid ordinary veterans to large contracts.

I'm really confused. Can anyone help me out and explain what they're trying to achieve? With K-Love already having a whinge in the press recently about not wanting to be a 6th man this year, what are the odds of him agreeing to a contract extension next summer? 10-1? 100-1?

ok this is what i have figured out

#kahn wants a run and gun style team ,right now he is building around Rubio
#Love will start and Beasley is our SF,Beasley has said he will play at sf
#sessions is good but Ridnor is so much better and hes just the vet pg minnesota needs esp with Flynn out 3-4 months
#the darko deal was 5 mill a season and there is not many centers with good defense for that cheap,imo we got a great deal
#the 3 point range we fix,incase u havent notice we picked up both Johnson and Webster,also Love shot very well from 3 last year and so did brewer when he played

i dont like kahn at all but there's no doubt he has a plan,Minnesota also have more cap space for next year now

I don't agree that Ridnour is better than Sessions. Sessions is younger and still has improvement in him. That he played with the absolute worst second unit in the NBA last year seemed to affect him.

As for Beasley at SF, he will get torched night after night there. It will also detract from those 3-point shooters you allegedly have (Kevin Love?). If the plan is to score more points via a running offence, that's fine, but you don't have the point guard to facilitate that offence IMO. Flynn was just ok last year and Ridnour won't improve it. And Rubio signed a long contract in Europe and seems about as likely to sign for the Wolves as I do. And wasn't Rambis trying to introduce the triangle?

And how do you explain Jefferson? He might not fit an up-tempo team but trading him for draft picks? A 20-10 guy who will again be near or might even be an All-Star this year for nada?

And Darko....well if history has told us anything it's that he seems most motivated when it comes time to getting a new contract. That being the case, a 2 year deal at most would have seemed more appropriate.

Sorry I just don't understand what's going on there. They seem to be rebuilding, but sign some iffy players to long term contracts. There's talk of playing up-tempo, but the coach seems to want to coach the triangle. Be interesting to see how they go next season.

.

sessions is not a vet pg we have enough young talented pg's already

Love is not great but he can still hit the 3 for a big man,the first half of the year he was going at 50% avg 1-2 3's a game,
Webster also hit 37% from 3 including over 100 3's
Johnson hit 41% from 3 in college
Ridnour 38%
Ellington 39%

Rubio has told kahn hes coming over,he has a get out clause next year and if he doesnt come over he will never live out his dream of playing in the nba

And how do you explain Jefferson? He might not fit an up-tempo team but trading him for draft picks? A 20-10 guy who will again be near or might even be an All-Star this year for nada?

his value is low,he wont be a allstar

And Darko....well if history has told us anything it's that he seems most motivated when it comes time to getting a new contract. That being the case, a 2 year deal at most would have seemed more appropriate.

not really how many big men dont get playing time and still earn over 5 million ??

the side plans changed,AJ didnt improve on D and he didnt fit in

Well I hope next year turns around for you.

In parting though, Rubio is 19 - his NBA dream won't be over if he decides not to come over next year.
