San Antonio's Gregg Popovich sent stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, plus key role player Danny Green, on a commercial flight home instead of playing them in a nationally televised game against the Miami Heat so they could rest ahead of the Spurs' Saturday home game against the league-leading Memphis Grizzlies.

NBA commissioner David Stern issued a statement before the game started apologizing to fans and saying, "This was an unacceptable decision by the San Antonio Spurs and substantial sanctions will be forthcoming."

Hmmm Pop has been doing this for ages, although maybe nothing as egregious as this.

Wonder what the sanctions will be?

Gave them a run till the end as well, were up by 1 with 40 seconds left
I dunno if sending them all home early was the right thing to do, surely resting them against Washington or Orlando would have been a bit better. Who I am to doubt the master though..

I can see both sides. In Pop's defense the Spurs were playing their 4th game in 5 days, which is ridiculous scheduling. And ultimately Pop's goal is to have his entire team healthy for the playoffs.

In Stern's defense it's a pretty bad look for advertisers, as well as the TV networks, to have a team (in a nationally televised game) sit out 4 key players.

In the end I probably side with Pop, but I can see Stern's POV.

They should of just made something up, flew like symptoms, sore ankle...whatever.

Edit: And honestly I don't mind the fine. The NBA is a business, they need to deliver a product to paying fans and TV stations, because of the spurs they failed to deliver on a nationally televised game.

NBA tickets are expensive, im sure a lot of fans in that arena felt very ripped off of their hard earned. I mean the players weren't even in the Arena, they were at home, why not play them sparringly then bench them?

Pop is having a protest at the scheduling is my guess, he could of got those guys some rest and avoided the fine.

The Pelicans?! WHAT THE f**k  . I do like they have picked a different name but that is horrible. I hope they come up with some good colours unlike the Thunder who stole the Knicks colours.

Also hope Charlotte "buy back" the Hornets name and colours.

How awesome were the Hornets

I might even become a Charlotte fan if they get the name and colours back.

How is it that a superstar basketball player can be so bad at something so fundamental to the game of basketball like free throws. Dwight Howard annoys me. ANYONE can shoot 70%+ from the FT line if they practice enough.

Is there any other sport where a superstar of the game can be so bad at something so fundamental and still be considered a superstar?

He's been unusually bad to start the season from the FT line, which is making Hack-a-Dwight a legitimate strategy atm. I'd imagine that his % will pick up a bit as the season goes on.

$45 dollars on the reigning champs and star studded Heat to do the half time-full time double on the 1-13 Washington Wizards...

imagine my surprise when i got home today to find my betting account in arrears $45?

The only saving grace is that a week or so ago, the Lakers cost me a ton of money by losing as outright favourites, so since i have been laying bets against them purely out of spite. Was even on the Magic on Monday to get it done.... im on NO tomorrow too (albeit with the spread)

I follow the games at work on yahoo, nothing pleases me more than seeing "Dwight Howard misses first free throw" and "Antawn Jamison misses..."

I think he is a mental midget, his free throw percent has been going down since his rookie year. What makes it worse is he can't even make up for it the same way guys like Shaq and Wilt used by dominating on the offensive end, Dwights got no moves!! lol.

Dantoni is such a dopey merkin. The game is obviously turning to the Rockets favour purely because of hack-a-Dwight and he just leaves him. If he sits Dwight they win that game imo.

Man the Lakers are dissapointing, I wish there was somelakers fans round here to give it to.

Nice game winner by J.R Smith over MKG, who played great D on the shot. Great win for the Knicks considering that Melo was out for the last couple of minutes of the game.

Haha i think I better wait. Kobe, Dwight, Nash? Surely they will get it going.

Edit: Gasol as well lol. He doesn't fit this system though, trading him is the best option for the Lakeshow.
