http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/211355/Clippers_Trade_Baron_To_Cleveland_For_Mo_Williams

The Cavaliers and Clippers have agreed upon a trade of Mo Williams and Jamario Moon for Baron Davis and a first round pick in 2011 (reportedly unprotected), according to sources that spoke with Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Williams is signed through the 12-13 season, though he has an early termination option for 11-12 and player option for 12-13, neither of which he's likely to utilize.

Davis is signed at a higher annual rate, but his salary for 12-13 is a partial/non-guaranteed season.

Davis signed a five-year, $65 million contract with the Clippers in the summer of 2008 in what was originally intended to be a chance for him to unite with Elton Brand.

Davis was largely ineffective in his first two seasons on a Clippers' team that had been depleted, but he came into the current season in better shape and energized by the emergence of Blake Griffin.

The Akron Beacon-Journal reports that the Cavaliers will not use their traded player exception from the LeBron James sign-and-trade to complete this deal. Sending Moon along with Williams for the contract of Davis works for Cleveland in terms of matching salaries.

Did the Clippers really just give up a lottery pick just to get rid of Baron?

Am I the only one that see's this as a horrendous trade for the Clippers?

They're downgrading at the PG spot and giving up a lottery pick just to save a bit of money? Am I missing something? It's unprotected FFS

Not that it makes much sense for the Cavs either (although they are getting a good pick). Baron is going to stink up the joint. People thought he stunk up the joint in LA (before Griffin). He's going to take it to new heights with the Cavs.

Just confounding. The team that was giving up the better player also gave up a Top 10 pick just to make it happen?

I'm with ya man, I think this is a horrible trade for both sides but with LA giving up the pick as well, WTF are they thinking

This trade is so stupid that I feel like punching someone. Wtf were the Clippers thinking? UNPROTECTED!!!!!

I can see it from the Cavs perspective (the pick) and maybe they'll look to buy Baron out? It's going to be hilarious to see him if he does suit up for the Cavs.

I wanna see his first press conference as a cav haha

He'll either be crying or wont turn up lol.

He's apparently not too fond of Byron Scott either. Exciting times!

As Eddy Curry's tenure in the NBA seems to be coming to a close, it's nice to see a potential heir apparent step up.

Mo Williams makes $9.3 mill this year, and has player options of $8.5 million in 2011/2012 and another player option of $8.5 million in 2012/2013. As the article said, it's unlikely he exercises either.

Baron Davis makes $13 mill this year, $13.95 mill in 2011/2012 and $14.85 mill in 2012/2013 (although as per the article it's only partially guaranteed).

The trade does give the Clippers an extra $6 million in cap space in 2011/2012. Maybe their making a run for 2012 as well?

Davis is the better all around player but Williams is a vastly superior shooter. Maybe they're thinking that with the emergence of Eric Gordon that they don't need such a hot and cold player in Davis but the more consistent Williams?

As you say though, it does free up space in future years so it's possible they can commit that to other free agents. As far as the pick goes, with Griffin, Gordon, Jordan & Aminu all drafted over the last couple of drafts, maybe they're thinking they don't need anymore young talent but some vets, so they'd rather have the cap space?

I thought Davis over the last two months had turned a bit of a corner, still not shooting the ball well (not that he ever does), but his all-around play was on the upswing. He'd be bitterly disappointed as he'd formed a bond with Griffin and yes, I can see him throwing the toys out of the pram.

From the Cavs perspective, they don't save money but they get a pick. In what's shaping as a horrible draft. Doesn't make much sense from their perspective. Strange trade all round.

I wouldn't be confident in having Gordon as my primary ball handler. I think he'd be best with a playmaking PG next to him. I wonder if we'll see them promote Bledsoe back into the starting lineup? (although Mo will in all likelyhood get the start).

Mo is definitely the better shooter, although he's been shooting absymally (is that a word?) this season. Something like 38% FG% and 26% 3PT%. In saying that, I'd expect that to improve as his situation's improved and him to shoot near his career numbers.

My final judgement on the trade will probably rest on what pick that Clippers No.1 ends up being.

Wonder how Green fits into the Celtics? He'd be coming off the bench obviously.

Am surprised the Celtics would trade Perkins. Relying too much on Shaq?

The Rockets made major changes to their roster at the trade deadline, sending Shane Battier and Ish Smith to Memphis for Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round pick,

Aaron Brooks to Phoenix for Goran Dragic and another pick, according to persons close to the deals.

I am really interested to see how the thunder go with Perkins. Westbrook, Sefolosha, Durant, Ibaka and Perkins is one sick, sick defense. I do worry that Collison is now their primary back up 4 and I guess Sefolosha spends time at the 3 with Harden getting more minutes at the 2. Nate Robinson I don't know how he fits with the team given how clean cut they are but he is a nice spark.

The C's get Green years later than they were supposed to. I think it is not a bad deal for them if the O'Neals can be healthy and productive in the play offs. They needed new young talent and they got it with Green, who it will be interesting to see how much they re-sign him for.

The suns getting Brooks getting ready for life after Nash?

Thabeet and a 1st already for Battier? Man what a bust.

Baron Davis for Mo Williams is just such a why deal. It will be funny to see Baron no heart Davis hate life as a cav though.
