NBA trade deadline

According to some writers, they made to move to get smaller as they figure that they won't seen Orlando in ECF (the Heat instead) and the Spurs if they make the Finals (instead of the Lakers), therefore they don't need the size.

Huge gamble I agree. If they get Murphy and either TJ Ford or another buyout PG then they're a bit better off.

Wow great work by the Thunder.

Jeff Green aint great, and then you get a great big like Perkins to work with Okafur, and then you have a great energenic back up PG to play in a poor man's Russell Westbrook kind of way.

That is HUGE for the Thunder...I think they just shot up to top 2-3 in the West with this trade. They are now better than the Lakers and pushing the Spurs imo...with being very competitive with the Mav's

Also don't mind the Cav's trade.

They get a better PG than Mo Williams...and I like the deal for Semih Erden and Luke Harangody - they are young...but good role players. I especially like Harangody...

If that were the case, that would be quite a gamble.

I remember reading last year of how the Cavs and Magic made moves in anticipation of meeting each other in the ECF, and totally overlooking the Celtics.

Their size against teams like Orlando, Miami, Chicago hasn't really been a problem it's their age that is the killer lots of veterans prone to injuries. I think it is an uneccessary gamble, they have the best record in the East and they made the effort to get bigger after the finals loss

I am glad the Thunder acquired Perkins though that team deserves some success and they went about it the right -and hardest- way via the draft and cheeky trades. I think they can catch the Lakers.

Well Perk has played 12 games, back on the shelf, and they're atop the ECF. So maybe he's not that valuable? Big gamble on older players health but it also frees them up for the summer of 2012 as well, without hugely weakening their chances before then.

How so? Perk was off contract at the end of this season and Nate expired at the end of next season.

I'll agree that of their starting 5, he was the most replaceable.

I wonder if the Celtics have any plans of keeping Green?

Where is Green going to play, if they play him at SF, there are only a limited amount of minutes behind Pierce and they have KG and Big baby at the 4, this makes Boston worse imo.

Well they likely would have re-signed Perk so he would have ate up $10m+ of their space moving forward. Both O'Neals are off the books then, as are Allen & KG (from memory). They get a 3 month rental of Green and may get away with paying him only the qualifying offer (don't see anybody breaking the bank for him) next year which means he'd be coming off the books too.

Hmmm hadn't thought of the qualifying offer. If they can get away with paying him just that, then your right.

I think we might see Big Baby fill in more at centre.

True, but the Celtics are so much better when he is fit and it always takes 18 months to 2 years to get back to where you were with an injury like that. I think it was unneccessary given their current position but we'll see, maybe the plan on easing in to the playoffs like they did last year and doing what the Spurs are currently doing which wouldn't be a bad idea.

^^ Agreed

With Perk (on Bynum), Ibaka (on Gasol) and Sefolosha (on Kobe), the Thunder have three above-average to elite defenders against the Lakers' three main scoring options. Lakers are certainly capable of playing elite-level defence in return, but the Thunder seem to have that little bit more depth. I'm not saying they're favourites now, but they just got a hell of a lot better.

I dont think they would of afforded him. He already rejected there extension offer so he was looking for more money.

That's because the max allowed for the first year of his extension would have been $5.1m (as per current cap rules), but considering lesser centres have received up to (and over) $10m a year he didn't sign the extension, opting to go to free agency so that the Celts had to commit more. Owning his bird rights, they would have been able to spend over the cap on a new contract starting somewhere in the $8m - $10m range.

Apparently the Pacers, Grizzlies and a third team (originally Nola) were in a deal to send OJ Mayo to Indy for McRoberts and a first round pick but were literally 1 minute late after Nola pulled out and a third team could be found. That's life following Indy, wack trades and unable to make decent ones when it's there on the table.
